As many of you know, I was in Chicago last week attending the BlogHer ’13 conference. I was honored to be asked to do a presentation on Making The Most Of Pinterest while I was there and I also had the opportunity to be part of the 2nd Annual BlogHer Fashion Show! When BlogHer asked me to be in the show I immediately went to my typical place…the place where all I can focus on is my FLAWS and my SHORTCOMINGS.
Why in the world would they want ME in a fashion show? Oh, I know, I’m going to represent the “mature” blogger. They need someone OLD to balance out the young. OK. That makes sense. After I slapped myself a few times (figuratively of course!) I tried to graciously accept this opportunity for what I truly believe it was…a showcase for “beauty” in ALL its forms! And was it ever!!!
The group of “model/bloggers” invited to take part in this event could not have been any more diverse…but in the process of being transformed to make our catwalk debut we all became very much the same. We are all beautiful in our own way, there is no formula for beauty (despite what the fashion magazines try to convince us of). Our differences are what make us beautiful!
To quote Queen Latifah (who also happened to be a BlogHer ’13 last week!): “It’s confidence that makes you sexy, not what your body looks like.” ~ Queen Latifah
From the very beginning when the stylists were choosing our clothes, shoes, and accessories, to the hair and make-up session, to the actually catwalk, the entire experience was nothing but positive! By the time the music was cued and the lights went up and we stood in line waiting to make our walk…we were all feeling confident and BEAUTIFUL!
And how could we NOT?!? The spirit of this fashion show was contagious! Even the audience was excited! They were on their feet screaming and clapping and doing cat calls for every single model! Which only added to the beauty in the room because happy people are beautiful people! :-)
I hesitated to write this post today because I didn’t want it to be about ME and it’s not my usual type of post…but it was such an inspirational event I really felt it deserved to be highlighted and that BlogHer deserved to be commended for putting it on.
I also couldn’t let the opportunity to give my 15 new BFF’s from the show a little One Good Thing By Jillee love! :-)

Just a few more shout-outs to Ulta who provided all the make-up and hair styling (loved my sassy curls! Thank you Ulta!), and Gift Bar, who worked with local Chicago retailers to clothe us in fabulousness.
And last, but certainly not least, Darlene Gillard Jones and her crew of stylists, who made the whole thing happen! Love you gals!! Thank you for all your encouragement and patience with us “amateurs”. :-)
After the show was over we all, understandably, went a little crazy with joy and relief! :-)
