A few days ago I was suffering with one of my all-too-frequent headaches and feeling a little down about it. I hate to be a complainer, but I’m feeling pretty frustrated at this point. I’ve been doing everything I know how to avoid them (The Power Of The Humble Epsom Salt Bath), but they still come and then it seems all my attempts to get RID of them are in vain.
Because I was feeling kind of down in the dumps about the whole thing, I decided to drown my sorrows in a hot bath. As I was gathering my bath supplies….I remembered a post my sister Rebecca did over at Camp Wander awhile back that talked about using Birch essential oil when washing your hair to help cure a migraine. I began to formulate a plan…………..
Since I didn’t have any Birch essential oil
on hand, I decided to try Spark Naturals Relief Blend. This blend of essential oils is AMAZING for headaches! When no other remedies would work on my headaches, Relief has saved the day! HOWEVER, because I have uber sensitive skin, I can’t put it on my forehead or temples anymore. :-( When I used it, it feels great and almost immediately took away my headache, but then the next morning I would wake up with what looked like a mild sunburn on my temples and forehead (where I applied it) that would eventually start peeling. It really stinks having such freakishly sensitive skin sometimes!
I decided adding the blend to my shampoo made a lot of sense since it would still be making contact with my skin where it could be absorbed. I was even willing to take the chance that my SCALP might react the same way my face did, which would most likely result in some embarrassing dandruff for the next few days.
Luckily that didn’t happen! And the BEST part was that it WORKED!
I put a half-dollar sized amount of my favorite shampoo in the palm of my hand, added about 10 drops of Relief blend to it and swirled it altogether with my finger. I then shampooed as usual, but left the shampoo on my head for about 10 minutes. Just for good measure (and because I was fairly desperate at this point) I rinsed my hair and repeated the process again.
Before I got out of the bathtub, my headache was gone. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised because this blend has helped me before, it just has some unfortunate side effects FOR ME.
FYI, I’m the ONLY person I know that uses this blend that has been sensitive to it. My husband Dave uses it all the time with no ill effects. Like I said, freakishly sensitive. ;-)
If you would like to know how to make your own “headache blend,” here is a DIY version that my sister Dori at Riches to Rags posted in the past:
DIY Headache Blend
Put in a 1/3 oz 10 ml glass roller and top off with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Rub on temples, top of forehead, brain stem and back of neck.
Or, you could make it a LOT easier on yourself and purchase the Relief Blend at Spark Naturals. :-)
