You may have noticed the last couple of months I have done some sponsored posts for a brand I am very fond of… JCPenney. I was honored to be chosen to be a brand ambassador for them this year, and as part of that opportunity I had the pleasure of spending a few days at their headquarters in Plano, Texas last month. To be quite honest, I really didn’t know what to expect from the whole experience, but I have to tell you I could not have been more pleased with how it all turned out!
I not only got to learn all about the history and the overall philosophy of the JCPenney company, but I got to spend quality time with four of the neatest ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet, AND I got to go SHOPPING! It doesn’t get much better than that in my book.
The incredible JCPenney representatives that were assigned to be our “guides” spent time not only making sure we understood what the company really was all about, but they gave us a mini-tour of Plano that included some of the most delicious food ever!
These guys really know how to show a girl a good time! Food, shopping, friends! I was actually sad when it all came to an end too soon. :-)
The first day we were there we got sent back to school. Normally I would not be thrilled with this idea… but when you get to spend the entire day being instructed by fashion, beauty, and home decor superstars about the hottest trends, you tend to forget you’re being “educated.”
And when they top it all off with a bag full of goodies you forget all about the school thing. :-)
The second day we were there we got a guided tour of their flagship store in Plano from the inimitable Richard Ledbetter, VP of Visual Merchandising. He definitely knew his audience and had us all ooo’ing and ahhh’ing over the merchandise he showed us! Then things really got crazy when they let us all loose to do some speed shopping to find an outfit or two for ourselves. We were under a time crunch, but it didn’t take any of us long to find what we were looking for!
After learning about fall trends for women from Adam Moon, JCPenney’s Women’s Fashion Director, the day before, I knew right what I was after. I had an anniversary trip to Vegas coming up and wanted something a little dressy (and a lot comfortable) to wear to the Celine Dion concert we had tickets for. I chose this “high in the front, low in the back” sweater and these incredibly comfortable “soft pants”… both right on target with this fall’s trends! I was so proud of myself. :-)
I also spent a lot of time in the home decor section of the store, but since my suitcase wasn’t big enough to fit everything I wanted to buy, I had to save it for an online shopping session when I got home. I have to say that of all the pleasantly surprising things I learned about the JCPenney brand while I was in Texas, the beautiful bedding, linens, lamps, cookware, etc. had me practically drooling!
I know you don’t come to my blog to read long epistles on how I “feel” about something, but as an “ambassador” I really wanted to share with you what most impressed me about the JCPenney philosophy. They refer to it as the “Fit” philosophy, but it goes far beyond just wanting their clothes or other products to fit you physically, they also want them to fit your budget, your sense of style, your life. And you get that sense from EVERYONE who works there! Whether it was from the head of the marketing division, or the sweet lady who was our cashier at the store, they all treated us basically like they would like to be treated if the tables were turned. It was so simple, and refreshing, and downright enjoyable. As much as I like to get new things, the act of shopping itself is not my favorite activity… but when it’s done in an atmosphere like I experienced at JCPenney, it’s a pure pleasure.
