There seems to be a bit of a stereotype out there about essential oils being more for women than men and that’s just not true! The men in my life love essential oils almost as much as I do (almost!) and men can benefit from the therapeutic properties of EO’s just as much as women. Essential oils are wonderful for everyone!
I thought it was high time we put this stereotype to bed, and devote a post to all the different ways that men can (and should!) use essential oils in their daily grooming and health care.

My daughter Britta shared her recipe for making a homemade pre-shave oil here on the blog a while back. She started making it for her husband Neil when he ran out of his expensive store-bought pre-shave oil, and eventually she had her father asking for a bottle too! It’s super affordable, and the guys love how it protects and hydrates their skin while shaving.
This treatment also came from Britta, who found this method to be really effective at improving her husband’s flaky scalp issues. If any of the guys in your life struggle with a dry scalp, I’m sure you won’t have to try too hard to convince him to try out this oil treatment, since it does involve getting a head massage. ;-)
These recipes are not only simple to make, but will save any guy a ton of money over buying expensive, store-bought shave creams or gels. Plus, you get to call the shots when it comes to the scent, so that’s an added bonus.
Now, I’m not here to point any fingers… but I’ve had a LOT of women tell me that they are a lot happier since their husbands and sons started using this spray to eliminate unfortunate “bathroom smells.” And I often have meetings with an office full of men who SWEAR by this spray, and say every guy’s bathroom needs a bottle!
This one’s a must-have for outdoorsy guys! Keep the mosquitos away with this DIY cord bracelet that’s infused with Citronella essential oil. Plus, the bracelet is made using lengths of paracord, which could come in real handy in an emergency if you’re out in a remote area! (There’s a great list of emergency uses for paracord at SurvivorGeek.com.)
My boys have all struggled with attention issues at school, so I know how hard it can be on them! They’re frustrated because they can’t seem to stay on task or finish work, and their teachers are frustrated because they’re disruptive in class or difficult to deal with. So when my sister Dori told me about her blend of essential oils she was using with her son Jed (aptly named “Jeddy’s Blend”,) I was thrilled.
Jeddy’s Blend has helped Jed and hundreds of others find relief from their attention and behavioral issues. I would encourage guys of all ages who struggle with similar issues to see if it could help them, too.
Aches and pains are no stranger to guys who work on their feet all day, or work out hard at the gym. Rather than taking a bunch of over-the-counter pain relievers, try rubbing some of this homemade pain relieving cream onto the affected area. The cooling effect of the camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus will have you feeling relief in no time!
This is definitely a very guy-friendly salve, because it has so many different uses! Use it to help heal dry, cracked skin on hands, elbows, and feet, use it on chapped lips, insect bites, cuts and scrapes, and more! Guys can keep a pot of All-Purpose Healing Salve in their car, at their desk, or even in their lunch bag, so that it’s always handy.
If you know a guy who’s on the fence about essential oils, don’t forget to share this list with them! We all need to work together to get the message out about essential oil equality! :-)
