For me personally this list would be much longer. I don’t get enough sleep most nights…which means I’m tired more than I should be. I usually end up working late and then reading until I can’t keep my eyes open. I know it’s not good for me…but my body just doesn’t seem to want to accept that fact.
Even if you’re NOT a chronic undersleeper (like me) — it only takes one sleepless night to really mess with your ability to accomplish certain tasks.

This one should be a no brainer. Driving when you’re tired is an unnecessary risk! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that around 100,000 car crashes occur as a result of driver fatigue every year. If you’re usually a bit sleepy before or after work, try taking a brisk walk around the block before driving. Or if you’re doing a long-distance drive, don’t be afraid to pull off into rest stops for a power nap.
Drowsiness can affect your judgment, so posting a snarky tweet may seem like a better idea than it actually is. It’s best to wait until you’re fully rested to decide if it’s something worth posting. Rest now, tweet later.
Make Important Decisions
Most significant decision in our lives require careful thought and consideration, and it’s hard to do that when you’re tired. Don’t be afraid to delay an important decision until you’re better rested – it will be the better choice in the long run!
In addition to affecting your judgment, sleepiness can also make you more impulsive. It can make you more likely to splurge on a spendy item, buy junk food you wouldn’t normally buy, or make other impulsive decisions you might regret later on. Can you say “late-night online shopping binge?” :-)
Try To Be “Superparent”
Parenting can be hard sometimes, especially when you’re feeling exhausted and frazzled because you’re not getting enough sleep! It’s always okay to ask for help, even if it’s just getting a friend to watch the kids for an hour while you grab some shut-eye.
Brag About It
Have you noticed that society has begun to glorify the mentality of always working, always being busy, and never getting enough sleep? Now life feels like a contest to see who can function on the least amount of sleep. It’s not a healthy attitude to have, and we can all do our part to change it by avoiding “bragging” to our friends and coworkers about being busy and tired. Amen.
Start An Argument
A constructive discussion between two people can happen when both parties respect each others views, listen attentively, and interact politely. So it should really come as no surprise that someone who is tired is more likely to start an argument than a constructive discussion. If you’re tired and looking for a fight, take a break and come back to the topic in the morning.
Try To Multitask
Multitasking can be difficult at the best of times, and trying to handle several tasks when you’re sleep-deprived can be downright impossible. Focus on one thing at a time if you’re sleepy, and you’re much more likely to be productive (and probably less likely to hurt yourself!)
