One thing they don’t really tell you about getting older is how much your skin will change. Over the past few years, I’ve had to completely overhaul my skincare routine to accommodate my skin’s new texture and appearance. There are also new skin issues I’ve had to come to terms with, like fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and more. But luckily for me, there are plenty of products out there that have helped me reduce the signs of aging and help keep my skin looking brighter and more youthful!

One skincare tool that I’ve adopted in my battle against premature aging is masks! Masks are one of the most concentrated and results-driven types of skin care products out there, and you only have to use them once or twice a week. I’ve learned that there are a lot of great masks on the market that are specifically formulated for aging skin like mine! Today we’ll be talking all about anti-aging masks, including what ingredients to look for, why they work, and I’ll also share a couple of my personal favorite masks that I’ve been using recently!
6 Mask Ingredients With Anti-Aging Benefits
Masks contain a myriad of different kinds of ingredients, but anti-aging masks in particular use a lot of the same ones. Here I’ll share 6 of those common ingredients, and I’ll tell you a little bit about why they work to give your skin a brighter, more youthful appearance. Look for these ingredients when purchasing a mask with anti-aging benefits!
Antioxidants help nourish and strengthen skin. They can help reduce the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Antioxidants can also help correct uneven skin tones and help revitalize skin’s overall appearance.
Astringent ingredients like rosewater, chamomile, and witch hazel can help tighten pores and make your skin feel soft and smooth.
3. Green Tea
Green tea formulas can help reduce the redness that becomes especially apparent on our cheeks as we age. Tea can also help fight free radicals and other environmental stressors that contribute to aging.
Fatty acids provide much needed nourishment for your skin. They also help it retain a plump and youthful appearance!
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are found in many anti-aging products. These compounds help to slough off dead skin cells, so newer, brighter skin can shine through. Some of the common AHAs in skincare products include glycolic acid, lactic acid, and malic acid.
6. Hyaluronic Acid
This ingredient helps to safeguard skin, while also attracting and holding moisture. Your skin retains less moisture as you age, and hyaluronic acid can help provide the moisture it craves!
My Favorite Anti-Aging Masks
My current favorite mask for anti-aging is the Coconut Honey Mask from Annmarie Skin Care. It’s made using wildflower honey, coconut oil, and beeswax, which all help to infuse moisture back into dry skin. I’ve been using it once a week or so for the past several weeks, and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in the texture and appearance of my skin! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who feels like their skin could use some nourishment and revitalization.
Another thing I like about the Coconut Honey Mask is that it doesn’t irritate my skin. My skin has gotten increasingly sensitive over the past few years, and a lot of products can leave my skin looking red and aggravated. But this mask is nice and gentle, and my skin seems to love it!
Another mask that I’ve been using is the Purifying Mud Mask, also from Annmarie Skin Care. This mask contains two different kinds of clay that help purify and renew your skin. I don’t use this mask as often as the Coconut Honey Mask, but it’s nice to have it around on those occasion where my skin feels extra grimy. (Like after I’ve been doing yard work and my skin is covered in a fine layer of sweat, dirt, and sunscreen.) This mask leaves my skin feeling clean as can be and totally renewed!
How To Use Anti-Aging Masks
A lot of masks have similar instructions for use, but it’s important to note that not all of them will be the same. Make sure to refer to the packaging that came with your mask for specific instructions.
Both of the Annmarie masks I mentioned above are simple and easy to use. To apply the mask, just use your clean fingers or a fan brush to apply an even layer of the mask to your whole face. (I have a special mask bowl and applicator brush set that I found on Annmarie, and I love it! It’s nice to have a specific brush and bowl for applying my masks, and the bowl itself is gorgeous.)
After applying the mask, let it work its magic for about 15 minutes or so. Then wet a clean rag with warm water, and use it to gently wipe the mask off of your face. (Make sure not to pull at your skin too much while you’re wiping the mask off!) Then cleanse your skin as usual, and admire your glowing and nourished skin! :-)
