Welcome to Spa Week! All week long, we’ll be sharing our best tips for bringing the spa home. In my opinion, one of the most underrated parts of a spa experience is the restroom/changing room. I just love that there are amenities everywhere you turn! And they are displayed in such a way that you feel welcomed to use anything you need, like soaps, shampoos, combs, or what have you. It’s like an unspoken invitation to pamper yourself. So why not bring that feeling into your own bathroom at home, so that every day feels like a spa day?
This DIY bathroom caddy is so easy to put together, and it will definitely add a touch of spa luxury to any bathroom. You and your guests will feel as if you’ve been transported to a day spa!
First, you’ll need a caddy of some sort. There are so many different types of utensil caddies these days, and they are widely available at stores that sell home goods or decor. I found this great metal utensil caddy at World Market. And bonus: it actually included 4 jars that fit in each compartment! (I wasn’t able to find the exact one I bought anywhere online, but there’s a similar caddy on Amazon.) But don’t worry if you have a caddy or carrier that doesn’t include containers! You should be able to find some kind of glass or jar that fits into the compartments, just check out your local secondhand and thrift shops. :-)
To dress it up my caddy a little bit, I wrapped some decorative jute ribbon around the top of each jar, and secured them with a dot of hot glue. It’s a simple touch, but I think it helps make the whole thing look a bit more home-y and inviting.
All that’s left to do is decide what you’re going to put in your caddy! Think about what items you use most often in the bathroom, or maybe there are some things you often find yourself wishing you had in the bathroom. I tend to use a lot of cotton products for facial cleansing and makeup touchups, so I included cotton pads, cotton balls, and cotton swabs in my caddy. In the remaining jar, I put a small tube of hand lotion, to help with my dry winter hands that can get aggravated by repeated washes.
Those are just the things that I chose, but there are tons of different items you could include in your bathroom caddy! Here are some ideas to get you inspired…
- Spare toothbrushes
- Floss or toothpicks
- Perfume or body spray
- Hair combs
- Small bottle of hairspray
- Breath mints
- Single-use bottles of mouthwash
- Tampons or sanitary napkins
- Nail files
Anything that would help you or your guests to “freshen up” in the bathroom would make a great item to include in your bathroom caddy.
Once your items are loaded into your caddy, find a place to put it in your bathroom where it is visible and can be easily accessed. It’s unlikely that you or your guests will get much use out of it if it’s behind a cupboard door!
While it may seem simple, making a few amenities or supplies readily available in your bathroom can go a long way towards curating that luxurious spa-like feeling!
