I’m sure you probably already know, but it bears repeating – the Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games are happening TONIGHT! I’m so excited! I’ve always loved watching the opening and closing ceremonies, along with following many of the events during the games. I’m also always looking for an excuse to have a party….so naturally, I decided I needed to search out some fun ideas for celebrating this historic event!

Lucky for us, these games are being held in Rio, which gives us another great excuse to eat some really delicious Brazilian food. Two years ago, the FIFA World Cup was held in Rio as well, and we put together a blog post about how to host the perfect World Cup party. Our World Cup Party menu included 3 delicious Brazilian recipes: Grilled Sirloin with Chimichurri, Pao de Queijo (Brazilian cheese rolls), and a creamy Brazilian Lemonade. All three of these recipes are SO good, so I highly recommend giving them a try, in the spirit of the games. ;-)
In addition to eating too much Brazilian food, there are countless other clever ways to celebrate the Olympics, whether you’re watching at home with your family, or hosting a watch party with friends. One of my favorite simple projects is this adorable Olympic Rings Table Runner. I’ll share how you can make one at home, PLUS I’ve rounded up nearly 20 more brilliant Olympic-themed ideas, crafts, and recipes. You can find all those links below the instructions for the table runner.
Let the games (and the inspiration) begin!
Olympic Rings Table Runner
Start by cutting your paper to a suitable length for your table, or whatever surface you’ll be displaying it on.
Place a small amount of each paint in separate containers. The containers can be just about anything, but should have a flat surface wide enough so that a toilet paper tube can easily fit on it. Silicone molds or small paper plates work great!
Cut each of your toilet paper tubes in half, so you have 6 pieces (though you’ll only use 5).
Press one piece of cardboard tube into one paint, then press the paint onto the length of paper.
Repeat for each color, ensuring that the rings are in the correct order. From left to right – blue, black, and red on the top row, and yellow and green on the bottom row.
Paint as many sets of olympic rings onto your table runner as you like, then allow the paint to dry completely.
Top with your favorite snacks and you’re on your way to the perfect, simple Olympic party.
