One of my favorite things in the whole, wide world is taking a long, hot bath! It’s such a simple pleasure, but one that brings me so much enjoyment! The problem is I don’t always have the time to indulge in this luxury. As my life gets busier and busier I can’t seem to find the time to enjoy one of my favorite things! It’s a crying shame I tell ya!
Well, since necessity is the mother of invention (and I need my baths!) I have come up with a temporary alternative for when a “long, hot soak” just isn’t in the cards. And while it’s definitely not a perfect substitute…I think I’ve definitely hit on something!
I call it my “bliss bath” because that’s how I feel when I indulge in it! The word “bath” is a bit of a misnomer because you’re not really sitting in a tub of water…but you are bathing yourself in goodness!
How you take a “bliss bath” :
Grab a bottle of (preferably) unscented lotion and pour or pump a glob (yes, that is a technical term) of it in the palm of your hand.
Now grab your favorite essential oil, or essential oil blend, and add a few drops to the glob. Rub your hands together to mix the lotion and the oil and then start slathering it all over your body. It helps if you are just out of the shower or just before you get dressed in the morning because you just happen to be naked. :-) The more you can get on your skin, the better! I like to cover every inch of exposed skin I can reach.
After that…I wait.
And sure enough, after just a few minutes….I start to feel like this……………
Completely relaxed and feeling like I just stepped out of a long, hot bath!
How does this work? Essential oil molecules are so minute that when they are applied to the skin; they are able to pass through the outer layer of the epidermis, through the dermis, into the capillaries and into the bloodstream. So once you “bathe” in them they immediately get to work on your mind and body.
The “bliss bath” is a dream come true if you’re looking for a reprieve from the stresses of the day.
- Lavender is very relaxing and calming to the body and mind.
- Marjoram is mentally strengthening and relaxing.
- Roman Chamomile adds excellent calming properties, and is effective for irritation, impatience and feeling disagreeable.
- Ylang Ylang also has a calming effect on the mind and body and its’ sweet and floral aroma is very relaxing.
- Sandalwood creates a calming and harmonizing effect, while reducing tension and confusion.
- Vanilla provides relief from anxiety, anger, and restlessness.
But like I said before….you can use any other essential oil you like to attain the “state of mind” you’re looking for. Let your mind run wild with the possibilities!
Just remember, a bath doesn’t necessarily have to be in the tub anymore. :-)
What is your bliss? Here are a few more of mine………reading a good book……..crocheting or knitting (a newly-discovered bliss!)………gardening (not weeding!)…….lunch with a good friend……the occasional nap…holding a happy or sleeping baby……a funny movie with a big tub of popcorn!
