I don’t know about you….but I had a GREAT Mother’s Day! Why was it so great? Well, let me tell you. For Mother’s Day my kids gave me a gift certificate for a hot stone massage (something I’ve never tried before and honestly am a little nervous about!) but WAY more important than that was the small stack of handwritten letters they presented me with.
Each of my kids and my two kid-in-laws took time to write a note letting me know how I had been a force for good in their lives. I cannot express in words how good this made me feel. While it was comforting to know that I haven’t messed them up TOO terribly with my mothering efforts over the years…the fact that they decided to do this seemingly small gesture of kindness for me made me realize that if nothing else I had somehow impressed upon them the big impact that “little things” can make.
Ironically, this all played right into what I was posting about today (I promise it wasn’t planned that way!) For the last few months I have been telling you about my new children’s book called “Jillee Bean and the One Good Thing.”
For those of you who are hearing about this book for the first time, “Jillee Bean & The One Good Thing” is a collaboration between myself and Samantha Hollister and is based on the childhood nickname given to me by my Dad. Our fondest hope is that it will carry the message to children everywhere that doing “little things” for others can add up to a lot!
Still on the fence about ordering? Please do me the very special favor of watching this short video we put together about the book. I think it might change your mind. :-)
After the priceless gift I received from my children today of simple handwritten letters thanking me for being their Mom, I am more convinced than ever how important the message of this book is for children of all ages. It’s the little things we do for others that add up to great big things. Like making a Mom feel like she’s on top of the world through a few precious words written on a piece of paper.
