I often find myself struggling with the dreaded “Afternoon Slump.” It usually happens around 3pm, when whatever I ate for lunch has settled into my stomach, and my motivation for productivity starts slipping out the window. I start to feel sleepy and sluggish, which I HATE! I’m guessing many of you can identify with this experience.
At this point, many people reach for a cup of coffee, an energy drink, or (in my case) a Diet Coke. But there’s no need to go straight for the caffeine! There’s a completely natural way to banish the “Afternoon Slump,” or any other kind of slump when we need an energy boost – it’s peppermint essential oil!
Peppermint oil is one of the most energizing and rejuvenating oils available. Even just a whiff of peppermint oil can give you a boost of energy! According to a study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, peppermint oil can improve users’ exercise performance, respiratory function, blood pressure and heart rate.
So to help spread the word about the amazing energizing properties of peppermint oil, I thought I’d put together a list of simple ways you can use peppermint oil in your daily life, rather than reaching for that caffeinated drink.
Spread the energizing scent of peppermint around your home or office by using an essential oil diffuser.
When you’re feeling sluggish, dab a small amount of peppermint onto your wrists and the back of your neck (diluted with a carrier oil if you have sensitive skin).
Keep a small dram bottle of peppermint oil in your purse or at your desk to take a whiff of when you need a quick boost.
Place a few drops of peppermint oil onto a DIY essential oils pendant diffuser to keep the energizing scent with you all day!
If you need an early morning boost of energy, add a few drops of peppermint into your shampoo during your morning shower. The peppermint will add an invigorating tingly feeling which is very energizing, as well as provide added cleaning power to your shampoo!
Add a drop or two of peppermint to a glass of ice water for a refreshing and healthy pick-me-up during the day.
