Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe it is already a new year. It seems like we barely ushered in the last one! Someone has got to figure out a way to slow down time! It’s going way too fast! :-)
Now that 2014 is in the “record books”, so to speak, we decided to take one last look at some of our favorite posts over the last year. My daughter Britta, daughter-in-law Kaitlyn, our new team member Brittany, and myself, all chose 5 posts that we considered to be standouts to share. Believe me when I say it was not easy to limit ourselves to just 5! But we didn’t want you stuck here reading all day when there’s New Year’s Day fun to be had! :-)
So without further ado….we present to you some of our favorites posts of 2014:
There are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands, of ways to use essential oils in your day-to-day life. In this post I share 35 ways I have used essential oils…some of which might just surprise you!
I LOVE this homemade beauty solution! It couldn’t be easier to make and I use it all the time to get rid of the dead, flaky skin around my lips. Bonus: it tastes delicious and freshens your breath! It doesn’t get much better than that!
I could not believe how popular this post was when I posted it back in September. Apparently I am not the only one who suffers from this! Find out how to deal with this pesky problem!
I am actually making this recipe TODAY! Ever since my daughter Britta made it for the first time back in May it has been one of my go-to gluten-free dessert recipes. Give it a try and you’ll see why!
I am a technology geek/nerd/fan so I get a kick out of doing “geeky” posts once in awhile. This was my favorite this year. I have started using MANY of the ideas on a regular basis!
Writing this post was a girly girl’s dream come true. I got to test makeup for my job! It also proved to me that just because something is more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better than the cheaper version. I’ve converted a few friends and family to using some of the products in this post and still use them myself!
I’m completely biased towards this post because pilling is my major pet peeve. But the techniques I tested out really do work! It was fun to try out some new DIY methods.
Out of all the posts I’ve worked on for the site, this is my absolute favorite! I’m not usually that crafty but I’ve developed a love for party planning and styling and had a blast doing the decorations for this Valentine’s table. It turned out even better than I expected it to. Plus, I adored Jillee’s idea for the Love Book. We had such a fun time filling them out as a family.
This is probably the post that I use the most in my life. This stain removing technique is so effective and works on more than just dark-colored clothing. Take it from someone who always manages to spill on themselves during meals – you have got to check out this post.
This post was completely spur of the moment. We’d had something else on the calendar for this day that didn’t work out last minute. I pulled this together just a few hours before posting it and it ended up being a hit! It’s been pinned more than 8,000 times now. It goes to show that sometimes the most simple ideas are the most useful. And yes the apple nachos taste as good as they look
I really enjoyed making this dish!! As I stated in the post, I love an opportunity to cook using a cast-iron skillet. This one-pot wonder was so easy to make, but looked and tasted as though I had spent hours preparing it. Isn’t that really the holy grail of cooking we’re all searching for? ;-)
One of the best things about working on a blog is the opportunity to turn your real-life dilemmas into projects you can share with others. This bookcase project was no exception! I was able to turn my blah hand-me-down bookcase into a piece that I absolutely love, and all it took was a couple coats of paint!
It’s no secret that summertime is my favorite time of year. I love how long the days are, and there’s really nothing I enjoy more than spending a summer evening outdoors (preferably eating delicious food!) with people I love. So I really enjoyed this post that Jillee did for JCPenney, because I think it totally encapsulated what a summer cookout should be – fun and easy to throw together, with a touch of home-y comfort.
Another one of my favorite things is soccer! My husband and I have season tickets for Real Salt Lake, and we spend most Saturday mornings watching the Premiere League games on TV. So when the opportunity presented itself to do a World Cup-themed post this summer, I was all over it! Undoubtedly the best part about doing this post was the FOOD. If you haven’t tried the steak and chimichurri sauce from this post… DO IT. You can thank me later!
This post made my Top 5 because of how often I’ve used this Yoga Mat Spray this year! I recently took up Bikram Yoga (possibly the sweatiest activity one can participate in,) so I don’t think I need to explain why I’m so concerned about keeping my mat clean! This spray is super simple to mix up, and all I need to do is just spray my mat and wipe it down with a clean microfiber cloth. And since I already have the ingredients at home, I’m saving quite a bit of money!
I love this simple recipe that I can customize with whatever dried fruits and nuts are on sale. I hate eating breakfast, but these are tasty and I can even make myself little ones!
Winter is rough on car carpets, but this really makes them look brand new and fluffy. I am so surprised by the results.
I make this all the time, it’s perfect on its’ own or as a spaghetti sauce. I love using my Blendtec and it’s a delicious option for a healthy dinner.
My dry hair needs to be moisturized often, but this way I don’t have to buy any products with chemicals and whatever else. It smells good and makes my hair SO soft!
I’m all about baths. It’s the only way to warm up after a long, cold, winter day – not to mention all of the health benefits! I had never used clay, but I had all the other ingredients and am happy to have the clay around now :-)
2015 here we come!
