Melon Granitas


I don’t know about where you are, but where *I* live, we are definitely in the dog days of summer! With temperatures in the 90’s I was looking for a refreshing dessert idea and happened to come across a recipe for melon granitas that fit the bill perfectly!

  • 6 cups melon cubed
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt


  • In a blender, combine the melon, sweetened condensed milk, lime juice, and salt and puree until smooth.
  • Pour into a baking dish and freeze until firm (at least 3 hours.)
  • Before serving, scrape the surface of the melon ice to create large flakes (or the texture of shaved ice) and spoon into small cold bowls or glasses…or top it with a splash of champagne or lemon-lime soda to turn it into a summery cocktail/mocktail.
