Black Bean Chocolate Frosting

Chocolate frosting with beans instead of oil?? The results are surprisingly delicious, and provide a lower-fat, lower-calorie alternative!

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup cooked and rinsed black beans
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 heaping Tbsp almond butter
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup
  • Pinch of fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp warm water if necessary to achieve a smooth texture

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor and mix well.
  2. Refrigerate after mixing.

Recipe Notes:

I will add that substituting beans into your recipes generally produces a more cake-y texture. If you’re the kind of person that likes a chewier texture, you may want substitute only half of the butter or oil rather than the full amount.
