9 Easy Cleaning Projects You’ll Never Regret Doing

A collage of pictures of a dog, dog toys, and a refrigerator showcasing cleaning.

Iโ€™ve been busy with spring cleaning over the past few weeks, mopping floors, wiping down baseboards, and de-greasing the kitchen. With every cleaning project I finish, my home feels cleaner, fresher, and less stale, which I find highly satisfying!

While tackling these common spring cleaning tasks, I began thinking about other cleaning tasks that may not be as obvious. In my experience, the little projects we donโ€™t always think to tackle can greatly impact how clean your home feels!

In this post, youโ€™ll find a list of small but impactful cleaning tasks to add to your spring cleaning to-do list. Youโ€™ll be amazed at what a difference they make!

9 Easily Overlooked Cleaning Projects To Add To Your To-Do List

Places You Wouldnโ€™t Think To Spring Clean

1. Entryway Closet

Several months of removing and returning wet clothes and shoes from your entryway closet have likely left it in quite a state, so this is a good opportunity to clean it! Pull everything out, get the dust and dirt out, and maybe add an over-the-door pocket organizer to keep things tidy! Your closet will feel refreshed, and youโ€™ll be sitting pretty for the next few months.

2. Toolbox

There are always things to fix up and repair during the spring and summer seasons, and you can set yourself up for success by making sure your toolbox is clean! Vacuum it out, and toss out any junk that found its way in there. Youโ€™ll be organized and ready to tackle any project that comes your way.

3. Craft Supplies

Wherever you keep your craft supplies, take a minute to assess the situation. Vacuum up any loose glitter, recycle any paper scraps, and tidy it up a bit. Youโ€™ll thank yourself for doing it the next time youโ€™re ready to start a new project!

4. Throw Pillows & Throw Blankets

Check out the labels on your throw pillows and throw blankets, and wash them accordingly. A lot of throw pillow covers can be removed and tossed right into your washing machine! Freshening up your pillows and blankets will go a long way towards making your space feel clean, fresh, and inviting!

5. Ceiling Fans

Before you need to start using your ceiling fans to keep your house cool, give them a good cleaning. That way you wonโ€™t be showered in dust when you turn them on! And as a bonus, your ceiling fan blades are actually one of the quickest and easiest things to clean. (As long as you know this fan blade cleaning secret, anyway!)

6. Fridge Drawers

Just by virtue of being at the bottom of your fridge, fridge drawers tend to get really dirty! Pull them out of the fridge and wash them in soapy water. (If your sink isnโ€™t big enough, you can always do it in your bathtub!) Youโ€™ll feel much better about storing your farmerโ€™s market produce in a clean drawer.

7. Luggage

Get your luggage ready for your upcoming summer trips! Pull your bags and suitcases out of the closet and wipe down the outside with a wet cloth. Make sure to check out the inside too! Empty any lingering junk from the pockets, and spot-clean any messes.

8. Pet Toys & Bedding

For pet owners, “spring cleaning” often involves a lot of pet hair removal! Springtime shedding means all your petโ€™s stuff could probably use a good cleaning. Wash your petโ€™s bed and bedding if possible, and toss any cloth toys in the wash.

9. Outdoor Garbage Cans

Itโ€™s a good idea to wash out your outdoor garbage cans every once in a while. It helps keep lingering odors from becoming a problem! Drag your empty garbage can out onto the lawn, and pour a good amount of vinegar and a squirt of dish soap into the bottom. Use your garden hose to “pressure wash” the interior of the can. Then pour out the soapy water and give it a good rinse. Much better!

Is there a spring cleaning project you tend to overlook?

  2. A spring cleaning item related to one of your mentions in the post: Clean out those clear plastic shoe storage things for the door. After winter mine always has tiny stones from the season in them. I take a vacuum and suck it out quickly.

  3. Cleaning the garbage cans is the worst!!!! I would add that it should be done twice a year. Be ready for some really disgusting surprises at the bottom of them. For things that are stuck on the bottom and sides, buy a dollar store mop and swish the soap and scrub at them like a witch at her cauldron. Pitch the mop head in the next garbage day pickup, believe me, its not worth keeping it.
Since the water will likely contain some bits of old packages and schmutz, pour the water in a safe place on your property where you won’t clog any drains or get violations from your town. Later, pick up any garbage you poured out and dispose of it.

  4. Getting the camper cleaned and stocked for summer fun. Make up a “stock” and a “last minute” list to help you get on the road faster and with everything you want to take. Nothing ruins the trip more than to get set up, and instead of relaxing, you have to run out to get something you forgot. (and now have multiples of you don’t need.)

  6. Love all your ideas! My least favorite item is those large garbage cans! Thank goodness my husband hauls them out and cleans them. Be careful with vinegar as it can kill anything organic, like lawns!

  7. We never turn off our ceiling fans. We reverse them in winter. They are cleaned about every 3 months though.
