The subject of today’s post might seem a little strange at first, but I hope you’ll bear with me. :-) My goal with each blog post is to share at least one thing with you that helps make your life easier. Sometimes that thing takes the form of a useful tip or trick, instructions on how to make something, or a piece of advice. But every once in a while, I come across a product that is so useful, I feel compelled to share it with you.
And that’s exactly why today I’ll be telling you about my very favorite trash can! I didn’t know it was possible to love a trash can as much as I love this one, but here we are! I find myself appreciating its helpful features multiple times per day, so I wanted to tell you about it in case any of you could benefit from upgrading your trash can, too. :-)
Meet my fancy new kitchen helper, the 50L Touchless Stainless Steel Trash Can. This is definitely a splurge item, but I haven’t regretted it once! In fact, I find new things to appreciate about it every day. I’ll walk you through some of the things I love most about it!
5 Reasons Why I Love My Trash Can
1. Motion Sensor
Lifting the lid on your trash can gets tricky when your hands are either full or covered in food. That’s why I love the motion sensor on this trash can! All I have to do is move my hands over the sensor, and the lid will pop up on its own. It’s highly convenient, and more hygienic too!
2. Stay-Open Mode
While the motion sensor is perfect for a quick toss, there are times when you need the lid to stay up a bit longer. Whether I’m peeling veggies or scraping multiple dinner plates after family dinner, the stay-open mode is an absolute lifesaver! A simple tap on the sensor panel keeps the lid open for as long as I need, and another quick tap closes it when I’m all done. It completely eliminates the rush!
3. Standard Bag Compatibility
One of my absolute favorite things about this trash can is that it doesn’t require any expensive, custom-fitted bags! It works beautifully with standard 13-gallon kitchen trash bags that you can pick up at any grocery store or warehouse club. It saves so much money over time, and I love the convenience of not having to order specialty liners online just to empty my kitchen trash!
4. More Space For Trash
Unlike many traditional trash cans that have a bulky inner plastic bucket, this one uses a clever inner rim ring to secure the bag. Because there’s no thick plastic liner taking up valuable real estate inside the can, you get a whopping 25% more space for actual trash! That means fewer bag changes and fewer trips to the outdoor bin, which is a major win in my book.
5. Smudge-Proof Finish
Not only does the finish on this trash can look sleek, but it also stays that way, too! I’m not sure how it works, but the finish seems to repel fingerprints and smudges. And when it does get spilled on or splattered, all I have to do is wipe it clean with a wet microfiber cloth. I love having a garbage can that never looks “dirty.”

I really like Simplehuman products. I haven’t bought the trashcan shown here, but have other Simplehuman products including motion sensor ones. They’re well constructed and nicely styled. While they do last longer than most other products, for me the difference hasn’t been long enough to justify their high price tag. I despise today’s “disposable” culture but I’ve been better off (money wise) buying less expensive items and replacing them a little sooner. I also look for well constructed and easy to use items without “technology” (no batteries, sensors, etc.) that hopefully will last the longest and stay out of the landfill.

Doesn’t the motion sensor cause the can to open and close every time you walk past it whether or not you have anything to throw away? No thanks. As much as I like high-tech devices, my old-fashioned, low-tech trash can suits me just fine.

It was the only garbage can we could find that would fit into the space we had. I love it! Yes the bags are a bit pricey, but they hold a lot and never, ever leak. I purchase them in bulk on Amazon for a good price. They fit, they don’t fall down and they are easy to tie closed. I love the little extra features on my basic SimpleHuman – such as the vented bottom so you can actually get the full bag out of the can without a fight, and how easy it is to clean. I’d purchase another one in a heartbeat if ever I need to replace this one

Although it does not have some of the features of the new version, we love the wide opening ( great for cleaning out plates, or emptying dust pan), the foot pedal to open and especially the “no fingerprint” feature. Being a quality item, it is still in use and still looks good. Absolutely no regrets!

I really thought I had lost my own mind when I bought it, but have had it about 8 months now and have not regretted my decision. I love everything about it. It is not voice/motion activated, but has a foot pedal/lever which makes it as easy to use. It was really a wonderful investment for me!!!

It doesn’t have the feature of motion however, it does have a pedal and lifts the lid, the lid closes by itself after the trash is put inside and normal trash bags do work in it. I highly recommend it. It also comes with a 5 year warranty and because it is not computerized the likelihood of anything breaking is minimized greatly.
