Car wax is designed to fill scratches, give nonporous surfaces like glass and metal a beautiful shine, and protect from smudges and stains. Something as versatile as that shouldn’t be limited to just using on our cars! Turns out that humble can or bottle of car wax rattling around in your garage can be used for lots of things that make cleaning your house a much easier task!
So go find that container or pick one up the next time you’re out shopping and start using it throughout the house.
Here are 25 creative ways to use it that might surprise you:
1. Repel Dirt & Dust
Polishing your dustpan gives it a non-sticking surface causing dirt and dust to slide right off. Clean window blinds as you normally would and then apply a thin coating of car wax to them. The wax will help repel dirt and dust. Ditto for ceiling fan blades and air vents.
2. Fog-Free Mirrors
Prevent your bathroom mirror from fogging up after a hot shower by applying a small amount of car wax, letting it dry, and buffing with a soft dry cloth.
3. Shiny, Spot-Free Fixtures
Rubbing car wax onto your bathroom and kitchen metal fixtures will help keep them shiny and help prevent water spots.
4. Lubricate and Protect Your Tools
Apply a coat of car wax to your tools to stop them from rusting. For garden shears and scissors, rubbing a little paste on the hinge will help to keep them from jamming so they’ll cut cleaner and function better.
5. Fight Fingerprints
If you own stainless steel kitchen appliances, you may want to consider using car wax to clean them, instead of a surface cleaner. Simply apply a light coat of car wax to the appliance, and buff clean to resist fingerprints and smudges.
6. Hide Scratches On Appliances
If you find your appliances marred by scratches, try rubbing in some wax to make them disappear.
7. Fix Scratched CD’s
Don’t throw away that scratched CD (it’s practically an antique after all!) – try fixing first with car wax. Hold the disc with one hand, use the other to wipe polish onto the scratched area with a soft cloth. Wait for it to dry and then buff off using short strokes along the scratch, not across it. When you can no longer see the scratch, wash the disc with water and let it dry before playing.
8. Shine Your Bathtub and Shower
Shower doors, shower walls, and bathtubs are notoriously difficult to get clean, and even harder to keep that way. There’s no getting around cleaning them, but polishing them with car wax will make them shiny and help to repel mineral deposits and grime, so your cleanings will be easier and less frequent. It also helps to prevent build-up on the metal framework. When the water stops beading up it’s time to reapply. Do not apply was to the floorof the bathtub, it will be too slippery!
9. Tile Backsplash
If you wax the backsplash tiles behind your stove and sink, grease will wipe right off with almost no effort. Plus it will make your kitchen sparkle!
10. Shine Your Stove Like Your SUV
Clean and apply car wax once a month to your stove top to create a clear barrier that holds its’ shine and makes cleaning up after messy cooking incidents a breeze! Burnt on food and grease wipe off easily.
11. Fight Mildew
First clean your tiles, shower wall, or shower door with your regular cleaner then apply a layer of car wax to the inside and outside of a shower door and buff off with a clean, dry cloth to prevent mildew growth. You’ll only need to reapply about once a year.
12. Keep Your Table Saw Clean and Rust-Free
Protect your woodworking tools from the elements. Simply rub the wax on liberally with a damp sponge and let it dry for a few hours. Then buff it out with a clean cloth. Be sure to remove all of the wax out of the miter gauges. Makes wood run smoothly across table. Keeps it from jamming and causing serious damage to you and expensive hard wood!
13. Granite and Marble Countertops
If marble or granite begins to look worn or dull, use some car wax to help fill fine scratches and restore the glossy finish and shine. Use about once a month.

Wax is great on patent leather shoes. It keeps them looking great, and makes them much easier to clean.
