9 Of The Best Deals You Can Score In August

What to Buy in August

August is officially here, even though it seemed like July lasted about a week. But I’m always excited about the beginning of a new month, because it brings new opportunities to save money on the things you need!

Though August is light on official holidays, it is decidedly not light on sales, discounts, and money-saving opportunities. There are plenty of great deals to be had this month, as long as you know where to look!

August Is The Best Month To Buyโ€ฆ

What to Buy in August

1. Swimwear

While you can find good deals on swimwear in the spring, the really good deals donโ€™t start until this month. Stores will be clearing out their stock of swimwear to make room for fall fashions, so itโ€™s a great time to get a new swimsuit for any vacations youโ€™re taking later this year (or to get one for next summer!)

What to Buy in August

2. Kidsโ€™ Clothes & School Supplies

August is back-to-school season, which means you can expect to find great deals on kidsโ€™ clothes, shoes, and school supplies. Stores like Target and Walmart tend to offer some of the best prices, but if youโ€™re shopping for several kids or stocking up a classroom, Amazon will likely be your best bet for deals.

3. Air Conditioners

Keep an eye out for great deals on A/C units this month. If yours has been on its last legs this summer, the low prices this month make it a great time to get a new one. August tends to be the hottest month of the summer around here, so thereโ€™s still plenty of time to get your moneyโ€™s worth out of it.

4. Office Supplies & Furniture

Another benefit of all those back-to-school sales are the discounts you can get on office supplies. Whether you need office supplies for your desk at work or furniture for your office at home, keep your eyes peeled for great deals this month.

5. Storage Containers

Back-to-school time is also off-to-college time, so many stores will be offering sales and discounts on dorm-friendly items. However, you donโ€™t have to be decorating your dorm to take advantage of these dealsโ€”look for great prices on storage containers, plastic totes, bed linens, microwaves, wall decor, and more.

What to Buy in August

6. Outdoor Furniture

August is a great time to spruce up your front porch or patio. Stores will be clearing out their stock of outdoor furniture to make room for fall items, so you can except to see some pretty deep discounts. And thereโ€™s still plenty of time left in the season to use and enjoy outdoor furniture!

7. Lawn Mowers

Home improvement stores like Home Depot will be making room for fall and winter products this month. Look out for great deals on lawn mowers, string trimmers, and other summertime tools.

What to Buy in August

8. Flip Flops

It won’t be time to give up our sandals for several more weeks, but stores are ready to make room for fall fashions now. There will likely be very good discounts on flip flops this month, so you can buy a pair in every color!

Fiuffy Waffles

9. Special Deals

August may be one of the few months without a major holiday, but that doesnโ€™t mean thereโ€™s nothing to celebrate! Here are a few different happenings coming up this month that can help you save:

  • Tax-Free Day/Weekend – Over a dozen U.S. states offer a tax-free day or weekend during the late summer to help parents stretch their back-to-school shopping budget. Anyone can take advantage of the chance to shop tax-free โ€” find out if your state is participating.
  • Garage Sale Day – The second Saturday in August is National Garage Sale Day. Be sure to cruise around your neighborhood and hunt for bargains!
  • Root Beer Float Day – August 6th is national Root Beer Float Day, so you might find a good deal on these sweet treats!
  • Waffle Day – August 24th is National Waffle Day. Check out your favorite breakfast place to see if theyโ€™re offering any waffle-related discounts to celebrate.

Which deals are you looking forward to this month?

  1. HELLO!
I’m wondering about the top left photo in the intro. What is that table, and where would it fit in the calendar? It’s WAY cute!
    Thank you

    • Hi Mary – the table is just showing office furniture, which is usually on sale during August! I bought it from Ikea :-)

  2. Interesting. Usually where I live thereโ€™s not much left as far as swimsuits when July arrives. I tried finding one before I left for a recent trip. The suits were decent but more than I wanted to pay. Theres also an on going health issue that I didnโ€™t want to be out a lot of money, if me being able wear one, didnโ€™t happen. I was glad I got a make shift type beach outfit , since there was no way ( last minute thing), that it was possible to put one on.

  3. Since we are buying things!! Do you know when is the best time to buy Lazy Boy Furniture???

    • YES, I am also interested in receiving this answer on Lazy Boy Furniture! I just purchased a new recliner for the family room, but it was EXPENSIVE!! YIKES!

    • Actually, right now! In August, furniture stores begin to feature new lines of furniture in preparation for Christmas. That means that they have to make room, so the last year’s model might be one sale!

They’ll also have deals around Presidentโ€™s Day, 4th of July, and New Yearโ€™s Day. Be careful not to buy around Christmas, that’s when prices are highest! :-)

      • Thank-You, I knew that Christmas wasn’t a good time to buy. I’m not quiet ready to buy yet, I want to put a new floor down in my living room first!!! The Pups have to get a little more mature first!!
