Black Bean Blender Brownies {Gluten Free}

black bean brownies

WAIT! STOP! DON’T LEAVE! I promise…the fact that there are black beans in this brownie recipe is a GOOD thing! :-) Not only are they moist and full of rich, chocolatey goodness…they are also protein-packed and gluten free! (But you can still make them with regular flour too!) No one will even NOTICE that they have black beans in them. Trust me, I’ve tested this out. Oh, and I almost forgot the best part…you can mix them up in your blender!  No bowls or beaters required.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9 x 9 inch square baking pan.

I added the rinsed and drained beans along with the oil to my Blendtec and blended until pureed.

You will still see some tiny bits of the black bean skin, but don’t worry, by the time you’re done blending it will look like perfect brownie batter! I then added the eggs, cocoa, sugar, and vanilla and blended until smooth. Finally, add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the blender and pulse until just incorporated. The batter will be very thick!

Pour the batter into the baking pan and smooth it out with the back of a spatula.

At this point I added a nice layer of milk chocolate toffee bits, but you could also use plain chocolate chips or leave them off altogether. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Let cool at least 15 minutes before cutting and removing from the pan.

Here a tip for cutting brownies without shredding them apart: Use a plastic knife! It works surprisingly well!  Just wipe off between cuts.

Now it’s time to conduct an experiment! Put the brownies out on a plate and don’t say a word to anyone about them. I guarantee they won’t know this delicious pan of brownies has anything out of the ordinary in them and they will be gone in no time!

  • I had to come back a re-read the notes.. ufff, sorry I found where the oil was … I was to blend the beans with the oil!!

my mistake… in any event my brownies came out delicious!!

  • I am making this today, but in your instructions you left out as t what to do with the vegetable oil or at what point you mix it in… I decided to do it when I am adding the flour and remaining ingredients…

  • Spot on with this write-up, I honestly think this website needs
far more attention. I’ll probably be returning to see more, thanks for the advice!

  • I am recovering from long standing illness and would use the blender to make blended veggie/fruit smoothies so I could get mega doses of ‘raw’ foods to boost my health.

  • Would you like my bucket list of things I’d make in this blender?! If start with the black bean brownies ( can’t believe the recipe!) them I’d make some really hot Texas salsa!! Love your site and can’t wait for the book!’

  • These are so good. I made them in my Magic Bullet and turned out great. I used regular flour and then used chocolate chips on top. So easy to make too all in 1 pan. I had to cook mine a little longer so the bake time was 25 minutes that was it! Have to admit am surprised how good they are I used Dark Cocoa Powder so they are really rich. YUM!

  • Seen this recipe many times but haven’t made it! MUST do this soon and try on my husband who is not picky but probably turn up his nose if he knew he was eating black bean brownies. ;o)

  • I’d definitely try making these if I won the Blendtec! I’m afraid to try it in my regular blender…I’d also be making a lot more smoothies!

  • I have been dying to get one of these! I can imagine a million different ways to use one, but would love to make soup in it. I have a recipe for ginger carrot sweet potato soup that is delicious, and to be able to make it start to finish in one vessel would be perfect. Now I also want to try these black bean brownies!

  • I would love to try these black bean brownies in the Blendtec! I’ve also started trying green smoothies and a Blendtec would be nice instead of my cheap Walmart blender. :)

  • I have been pining for a Blendtec Blender for years now!!! I love that there are no blades in it which would make it so much better for cleaning. I want to make Amazeballs in it (little balls of protein, nut butter, etc) as well as a daily Smoothie!

  • I would love to try making green smoothies with fresh and frozen fruits and spinach in order to incorporate more greens into my families’ diet.
I would also love to make ice cream with this blender.

  • Trying this recipe today! I will test it on the teenagers playing video games in my basement. ;) I would love a great blender to make our traditional weekend smoothies as well as our warm weather (it’s coming??) margaritas!

  • I would make all sorts of things in the blendtec, it’s great that the batter can be made in here. I have made black bean brownies before and there was still some chunks of bean because my blender is not that great.

  • I’ve been wanting to try black bean brownies for a while … I just can’t make them when the kids are around, as they wouldn’t eat it if they saw the beans going in. But if I had a Blendtec, I’m sure I’d make a lot more than that!

  • there are so many recipes these days that you can create by the ease of a blender. The possibilities are endless!! I would try these brownies first thing, for sure!

  • Would love to try the black bean brownies in the blender — I’d add a few handfuls of extra Ghirardelli chocolate chips to the nuts on the top.

  • Can’t wait to try these! I have a muffin recipe that is made with a blender that I’ve been meaning to make for the past week. :)

  • I would use the Blendtec to make smoothies. My current blender starts to smoke trying to crush ice. It would be great to be able to blend up roasted beets and greens smooth!

  • I’d love to try and make everything!! But, if I was the lucky gal that won, I’d be honored to try your brownie recipe first and foremost!!

  • I would love to try these brownies and see if my husband and little guy notice. But what I really want to do is start making green drinks that are completely blended vs what my blender does for me now. :) Thanks for the post and the chance to win!

  • Awesome giveaway! If I had a Blentec I would make nut butter for sure. My ancient food processor just doesn’t cut it for making smooth nut butter. I think I would go nuts on soups too. Love soup.

  • I want to try making these brownies. I had some at a party and they were delicious! Nthere were bits of skin in them though, I bet she didn’t have a BlendTec.

  • I wold love a Blendtec blender! I like to make blended cocktails but with my blender, there is always chunks of ice left that don’t get chopped up. With the Blendtec I could make perfect, smooth blended drinks!

  • I JUST LOVE,LOVE,LOVE YOUR WEBSITE. I have recommended it to many of my friends. I am excited about making the black bean brownies. However my 20+ year old blender bit the dust a few weeks ago. I would so enjoy the Blendtec Blender. It would definitely get lots of use in my kitchen. Thanks Jillee and company for all that you share.:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

  • I’ve made these (with regular flour) and nobody could tell the difference. As long as the kids don’t see you blending it up, they have no idea what’s really in these brownies! I would love a good blender to make green smoothies that are completely smooth!

  • These brownies look delicious, and a recipe that I would love to try. The Blendtec sounds amazing too – perfect for our morning smoothies. I’d also like to try making nut butter and nut milk.

  • I’m so excited to try this recipe. Just figured out that at 59 a lot of my stomach issues turned out to be gluten issues so I’m working on eliminating this from my diet but do miss sweet things. YIPEE!!!!!

  • I have been making home made rice milk for a few years with limited success in my regular blender. I would love to try it in a blendtec blender.

  • My husband makes an amazing margarita so he would use the Blendtec for that. I would like to try to make the brownies. They sound amazing.

  • My current blender is out its way out, doesn’t make smoothies any more, more like salsa, lumpy. so a Blentec I would love it.

  • I would love to make my shakes in the blender. My current blender leaks out the bottom. I make shakes every day, so this would be super helpful. Thank you! :)

  • My fAmily doesn’t eat veges and would love to sneak color in our recipes!! I love smoothie and wants to try the green type. ThAnks Jillee!

  • My blender has lost power and can do very little now, can’t make smoothies kind of tears veggies and fruits instead of blending them. Would love a Blentec to replace it.

  • I would first like to try this black bean blender brownie. But if I had my own Blendtec I would make smoothies, juices, soups, sauces, etc the possibilities are endless. My son’s morning smoothies would be a breeze and I could make everyone a smoothie at one time rather than now making 3 separate smoothies in our small blender.

  • I have a child with sensory sensitivities and having a powerful blender to smooth textures will be invaluable in getting her to eat a wider variety of foods.

  • I need to share this recipe with my sister in law – she can’t have gluten. A fresh strawberry Milkshake sounds wonderful for that blender!

  • Can’t wait to try these — though I have to admit that while I adore black beans, it’s hard to picture them in a brownie!

  • I would totally make some fresh garden salsa this summer! And yes yes try all these delish recipes Jillee says she makes with it. I hope I’m a winner!

  • I made these a lot when I first went gluten free, but they didn’t have any flour in them. I will have to try this one. Also some brands of canned beans leave a beany taste. Try for the really black ones. I have never tried to top them so I think I will try another batch soon with chocolate chips. A good blender also makes this recipe work better. Would love a very good blender.

  • Oh those look so good! I would make my banana and date smoothie. I always have to soak my dates for 24 hours to get them all blended up and know the blendtec would fit the bill on doing this without soaking them. Would love to make nut cheese with it too, my blender can never completely do this even with soaking the nuts.

  • If I had my own Blendtec Blender !
Love the idea of this brownie : )
I would make everything in it :-), but for a start I would blend my own nut butters, and make healthy smoothies and blend vegetables for soups :-)

  • I would use it to make more diy recipes for hair & skin care since a lot of them need coconut flakes & such ground & blended. Also would make the powdered laundry soap since this should be able to grate the soap :)

  • I would like to make soups and smoothies. I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My goal is to loose 100 pounds before the end of this year.

  • I would love a blender that could pulverize the greens and other things I put into my green smoothies. Drinking more of those would mean I could make these black bean brownies without so much guilt! lol

  • Oh My – Healthy Smoothies and Homemade Mayonnaise – Sunflower Seed Butter – YES PLEASE! I could go on forever because I LOVE Homemade, but there are so many things that my sad little blender cannot handle.

Thank You For the Opportunity to Win Jillee!

I cannot wait to try this Brownie Recipe! :-)

  • Thanks for the healthy brownie recipe. I’ve seen this type of recipe before, but have not made them yet. They do look delicious!

  • I would use the Blentec for smoothies and vegee drinks. And to make those blended bean brownies. Many of my friends are eating gluten free.

  • The Black Bean brownies sound wonderful, I’d have to convert it to a sugar free receipe. But I would daily make smoothies with it. I have lost 80 lbs. and still going strong and getting much healthier.

  • I’m thinking the first thing I would NEED to make would be the black bean brownies!! They look fabulous!! I have heard such great things about this blender, it would be so wonderful to win it! Thank you for the great recipes and the chance to win this fabulous blender!!

  • If I had a Blendtec I would definitely make these brownies. My family LOVES anything chocolate so I can feel good about making these. Being able to make Smoother smoothies would also be great since my old Oster is on its last legs. Keep up the good work Jillee I love your posts!

  • I love making apple butter and using a great blender is a very important step in creating the buttery smooth texture of apple butter!

  • Definitely would try brownies! It would be a too-fer! Since my daughter has celiac disease the brownies would be a great treat for her. And the Blend Tec would make life SO much easier for me!!!!! Everyone would win!!!!!

  • I would love to try this recipe. I love to make smoothies and things like hummus. Sadly my blender bit the dust so I would love to win a new one.

  • first id like to try smoothies…mine aren’t so smooth with my blender and the smoothies seem to wear it out fast. ive had a few in the last 3 yrs. then who knows!

  • I am not entirely sure what I would like to make in my blender. The fact that you can make brownies, makes me wonder….how about cookies???

If that fails, I have always wanted to try to make my own almond milk. I understand it’s pretty easy.

Thanks Jillee, I love your website, and your sister’s.

  • I have a slush I make with fresh strawberries and lime juice, but my old blender doesn’t chop the ice fine enough. That’s what I’d make with one of these blenders! YUM!

  • I would love to have a blender that does what it says it will do .I get crazy when you’ve added everything and the blender just doesn’t have it to mix it all and then you have to resort to a mixer .

  • I’d give this Blendtec to my Mom, who just keeps going and smiling, even with a trainload of health issues. She’d love to use it for smoothies, homemade sorbet and health shakes.

  • I definitely want to try the black bean brownies, but I’d also like to make some homemade peanut butter! I sooo… need a blender and so why not win one! Thanks for the giveaway and the recipe!

  • I would love to try the brownie recipe above for my daughter who is gluten intolerant. She loves brownies and I have yet to find a recipe that she likes.

  • I would love this blender. I can think of so many things I would like to fix in it: soups, these amazing sounding brownies, pancake mixes, smoothies and so much more.

  • I’d love to make this brownie recipe, as well as my favorite deep dish Cookie Pie that’s healthified & made with garbanzo beans! LOVE bean desserts! I make it in my food processor now, but the BlendTec would be even easier’ plus an all around welcome addition. Thanks for the delicious looking recipe & the great contest!

  • I’m taking baby steps to better my health and having a superior Blendtec blender would make a giant leap in my kitchen! I could create my own soups and butters (and flours!) plus all the delicious smoothie recipes I’m gathering.
    Thank you!

  • We have one but I’d love to get one for my daughter who starts graduate school in the fall. I am sure she would get lots of use from it!

  • Delish recipe! For vegans out there one can substitute the eggs for ground flax seeds and water. And even use applesauce instead of oil.

  • I think these black bean brownies would be the perfect first thing to make in the new blendtec blender. Thank you for asking. :)

  • If I won the blendtec, I would try these black bean brownies and the deep dish cookie pie from Chocolate Covered Katie’s blog.

  • Oh My! I want to try these brownies and I would love to have a blentec blender to make these and also my protein shakes, smoothies, and so much more. :-)

  • Those brownies sound amazing so many things I can think of to make with the blender. puree some fruit and make fruit roll ups, cream soups, smoothies, mix of some nutella Popsicles. Yummy stuff

  • We start our day with a very healthy smoothie and what a great blender to do this in. Thank you for opportunity to win one of these.

  • My daughters make smoothies every. single. day. I would love to have a new blender for them to use. My is on its last leg! Hope I win!!! :)

  • I would definitely try the brownies, but I also have some soup recipes that I would love to try in the blender as well!

    Thanks for the chance!

  • I would love to make my breakfast smoothies since could use the whole fruit including the rinds & greens etc. Love love love this blender and have wanted one for quite awhile.

  • I love your blog, and I love to eat healthy foods! I added green smoothies to my meal planning earlier this year. I’ve read that Blendtec is the best blender available. I hope to win so I can find out for myself!

  • I would love to hide some veggies in smoothies for my girls….I need something powerful to completely grind up the spinach/kale that they would never want to eat on its own. I think a Blendtec could do it!

  • Since we are going to my granddaughter’s house for Mother’s Day, as well as my birthday, I think this would be an ideal time to try these delicious looking brownies out on an unsuspecting group of people. I’m sure they’re just as good as you say they are and the fact that there’s a giveaway, is a bonus.

  • I’m definitely gonna try this cause I’m not crazy about beans, but this may be the answer for me :)
Love making smoothies in the blender and would like to make some soups and dressings.

  • I grow an amazing basil garden every summer and would use this great blender to make lots of pesto. I would start bringing pesto to everyone as my signature goodie. I would also love to make smoothies and I have some soups where you emulsify ingredients and my other blender is nice but not quite what I need. Having the ability to grind ice to make Louisiana style snow balls at home and coffee drinks would be great. I could come up with so many things.

  • I love making smoothies and blending soups. I have a friend who has a Blentec and she loves it! I aspire to own one someday too! :-)

  • Besides these brownies (which I’m going to try tonight in my own OLD blender :) ) I’m trying to get into more smoothies for myself and my daughters for breakfast and with a better blender (I’ve heard) I can add more spinach and kale etc. without them knowing!

  • Wow, those look fantastic – I think I’d like to try your brownie mix in the blender. Though I had an amazing breakfast last week at a friends’ home – they made blender pancakes from their whole wheat in food storage. Oh, MMMM.

  • I would like to make my own marianara sauce. My daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac and a dairy allergy and I want to blend my own sauces so I know what is in them

  • A new blender would be great!! I have tasted black bean fudge and black bean chocolate cake, but never brownies – I need to try these.

  • I would like to try hiding all the vegetables my son doesn’t like eating in smoothies, breads, casseroles and all the other sweet treats he begs me to make.

  • I would love to win a blendtec. My mom is the smoothie queen in our family. We could also use for making crepes, soups, etc. If I win this I would surprise
My mom with this for mothers day.

  • I want to use the Blendtec blender because I have started making green smoothies and I got the Nutribullet which is great but now my kids keep wanting one if I make one for me and it would be great to be able to whip up a big batch all at once!

  • I will definitely be trying this brownie recipe. I’ve tried black bean brownies one other time and they were not a success.

  • I would love to try my pancake recipe in the blender! Just one container to clean up after all is done, that would be incredible.

  • I would like to try making these Black Bean Brownies as I’ve been eating gluten free for about a year I’ve missed eating one of my favorite goodies. Making them in a Blendtec blender would be awesome!

  • I can’t wait to try this recipe! I made black bean brownies many years ago, but the recipe I used then was very different, and the results were not appealing. This recipe sounds great! I’d make everything in the blender, but right now I am in love with a green pea/yogurt soup, that when made in a good blender gets nice and frothy. I’d make a lot of that!

  • The black bean brownies look delicious! I would love to try to make these with the Blendtec Blender. I would definitely add the toffee bits!! :)

  • I have always wanted a blendtec. Smoothies, Gluten free pancakes, soups. It would bring another layer of healthy eating too our family

  • This recipe looks great. I’d like to try a white brownie mix. Use some cannellini beans maybe, with raw sugar instead of refined, just fool around with the recipe to make white brownies. Also, would love to make some great smoothies!

  • I am morbidly obese. I have made a life decision to pursue Bariatric Surgery. I’ve been dieting now, and actively losing weight, but the hard part for me is finding ‘correct’ food to eat. I have wished I could just put all my good food in a blender and drink my meals, as it would make it so much easier. Not to mention so much more healthy for me. The problem is I live on disability from the Army. I’m a Viet Nam Era Vet with PTSD and other issues. My meager budget would never allow me to purchase one of these awesome Blendtec blenders. So I’m entering as often as I can. Cross your fingers (and toes?) for me? I love your blog. One of my daughters is living gluten free for her health, and some of your recipes here are amazing. I’ll make the brownies and surprise her with the beans AFTER she’s done eating them! :) Thanks so very much. <3

  • I have been using the same cheap blender for 15 years. It so awful I rarely use it, but if I could afford a nice blender like this I would be making healthy smoothies daily. Your brownies would be on the list as well.

  • I’d like to try this brownie recipe, as well as a few soups that you can make in a blender, such as gazpacho soup, yum! Then there are smoothies, of course. I think this blender would work well making my home made fresh breadcrumbs as well as my food processor, since I make large, coarser breadcrumbs!

  • I would like to use the Blendtec Blender to put together my favorite health drink, fresh each time, including baby spinach leaves, “baby broccoli” which is a hybrid of broccoli and kale, arugula, and grapefruit juice. The greens alone taste a bit grassy, and to my taste the grapefruit juice is quite sour, but combining them all makes a drink that tastes like a crisp spring morning.

  • I make smoothies to drink after my workouts. But I would be really excited to use the blender to make my homemade hummus…my little food processor leaves the hummus more chunky vs the smooth texture I like. Blending the black beans to be so smooth for the brownies is ideal!

  • I make a green smoothie almost every day. I blend up such things as carrots, and celery, and my poor blender always leaves some “bits.” I’m guessing this Blendtec could do a much better job and give me a much smoother smoothie.

  • I made black bean brownies a couple weeks ago and they were delicious. Everyone scarfed them and didn’t believe me after I told them they were made with black beans! I want a blendtec SO bad. I can only imagine how many black bean brownies and smoothies I could make!
