Today’s post is the answer to a puzzle that has plagued me for years. How to return my stained cutting boards to their original whiteness. I’ve tried a lot of different methods in the past with some success but never could quite remove all the stains. Until now. The secret….LEMON.
This is a picture of my well-loved cutting board after I’d scrubbed it with TWO of my favorite cleaners: My Miracle Cleaner – hydrogen peroxide & baking soda; and Barkeepers Friend. It’s definitely “clean” after all that scrubbing, but it’s also definitely still stained.
I decided to turn to another of my cleaning staples….Lemon. In this case I added lemon essential oil to water…but you could also use straight lemon juice.
I took the cutting board outside to our patio table and wiped the cutting board with a sponge I’d soaked in the lemon essential oil/water solution. (I used approximately 10 drops in about 1/2 cup of water.)
Then I laid the cutting board on a table in the sunshine and let it sit there all day….and most of the next day too. (Only because I forgot about it.)
And here is the result! The stains are completely gone! You can still see some of the cuts in the board from my knife, but the combination of lemony sunshine made the stains disappear!
Forget expensive detergents and cleaners and use lemon or lemon essential oil instead to return your hard-working cutting boards to their former glory!
