I am all about unique and easy cleaning solutions! Lately I’ve been seeing tips for cleaning with denture tablets popping up on Pinterest. Since I don’t have dentures (at least now YET!) this is something that never even crossed my mind before! I was so intrigued that I did a bit of research and was amazed to find a whole host of things that you can easily clean with fizzy wonders!
Tomato Sauce Stained Plastic
Fill the container with warm water and add 1-2 denture tablets. Wait an hour and wash out the container.
Fill pots or pans with warm water and add 1-2 denture tablets. Wait until the fizzing stops and wash the pot or pan.
Fabric (clothing, tablecloths, napkins etc.)
Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add 1-3 denture tablets. Once the tablets dissolve, add the fabric. Let soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse the item and launder as usual.
Drop 3 broken-up tablets into the drain. Then pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water until the clog clears.
Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add 1-3 denture tablets. Add the shoes and let them soak for 30 minutes – 1 hour. Thoroughly rinse the shoes. (I read a comment from someone on another site that said denture tablets are the only things that work to clean their Vibram FiveFingers.)
Coffee or Tea Stained Mugs
Fill the mug with warm water and add one denture tablet. Wait until the fizzing stops, then wash the mug as usual. This method works on tea kettles, carafes and thermoses as well.
Fill the crockpot with warm water and add 2-3 denture tablets. Let it soak for a couple of hours, then wash as usual.
Narrow Vases or Bottles
Denture tablets are perfect for items with narrow openings that you can’t wipe out any other way. Fill the vase or bottle with warm water and add a denture tablet. Wait a couple of hours then rinse well.
Fill the bathtub with warm water and add 6-7 denture tablets. Let the tub soak for a few hours then drain and rinse with clean water. You may have to scrub stubborn spots. Also works to loosen mineral deposits on jetted tubs as well!
Fill the tank with warm water and add 2 denture tablets. Run the coffeemaker through a full cycle. Rinse out the tank and run one or two more cycles with clean water.
Hair Brushes and Combs
Fill a sink or bowl with warm water and add 1-2 denture tablets. Add the brushes or combs and let soak for an hour. Use an old comb to remove any hair or product buildup from the brushes. Rinse with clean water.
I read a comment on another site that someone got this tip directly from a jeweler 40 years ago! So this is nothing new. Put about a cup of warm water in a glass and add one denture tablet. Add the jewelry and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Rinse the jewelry with clean water and dry with a cloth. I read that this works on diamonds and other hard stones, gold and platinum but is not safe to use on silver or pearls.
Baked on Food on Dishes
Fill the dish with warm water and add one denture tablet. Let the dish soak for an hour then wash normally. You may have to scrub a bit to remove especially tough stains.
Drop 2-3 denture tablets in the toilet bowl. Let them sit for 30 minutes (or longer for tough stains) then flush. I also found a tip from a denture user that said after they’ve soaked their dentures in cleaner, they just pour the used mixture right into the toilet. They let it sit for a few minutes then give the toilet a quick scrub with a toilet brush and flush.
Put about one cup of warm water in a bowl and add one denture tablet. Soak fingers in the mixture for about 5 minutes. It may take more than one treatment to remove tough stains.
Put a few cups of warm in a plastic bag. Add 1-2 denture tablets. Tie the bag over the shower head, making sure it is completely immersed in the mixture. Let it soak for a couple of hours, then remove the bag. If the stains aren’t gone, try scrubbing them with a sponge to remove.
Retainers or Mouth Guards
Put a cup of warm water in a glass and add one denture tablet. Add the retainer/mouthguard and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Remove and rinse thoroughly.
Hydration Pack Bladders
Fill the bladder with warm water and add 1-2 denture tablets. Let the bladder soak for a couple of hours then rinse thoroughly.
Fill the sink with warm water and add 1-2 denture tablets. Let it soak for a couple of hours, then drain and rinse with clean water.
Fill a spray bottle with warm water and add 3 denture tablets. Spray onto tile and let it sit for 30 mins. Rinse with clean water.
