One of my favorite ways to cool off on a hot summer day is with a tasty frozen treat! And it just so happens that my very favorite frozen treat is not only easy to make, but it’s actually good for you too! What is it, you ask? It’s frozen fruit! I can’t get enough frozen fruit during the summertime, and there are so many delicious ways to enjoy it. And that’s exactly what we’ll be exploring in today’s post! Today I’m sharing 9 different ways to enjoy frozen fruit, and I think you’ll be surprised at just how versatile this frosty treat can actually be! Whether you’re looking for a dessert at the end of the day, or a chilled breakfast treat, it can be as simple as freezing a few pieces of fruit. :-)
And maybe it goes without saying, but if you have a frozen fruit idea or recipe that isn’t listed here, I’d love to hear about it! You can never have too many frozen fruit ideas, in my opinion, so share your delicious idea with us in a comment at the bottom of this post.
9 Delicious Ways To Enjoy Frozen Fruit
1. Frozen Berries & Cream
I recently tried this frozen berry treat for the first time, and now I can’t get enough of it! It’s essentially a berries-and-cream dessert, where you pour sweet cream flavored coffee creamer over a dish of frozen berries. It might sound strange to pour coffee creamer over anything other than coffee, but I like the extra bit of sweetness and creaminess that it lends to the frozen berries! This treat is really refreshing too, which is exactly what you want on a hot summer day.
I use Natural Bliss coffee creamer because it’s made with real milk and cream. I like knowing that’s it’s not quite as chemical-y or processed as a standard creamer. But if you have a favorite brand of sweet cream flavored coffee creamer, feel free to use that instead! Sometimes I pour it over the frozen berries and eat it right away, OR I will pour the cream over the berries and then put the bowl back into the freezer for half an hour or so for an even frostier treat! :-) Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
2. Yogurt-Covered Blueberry Kabobs
This frozen blueberry treat is an old favorite of mine that I’ve shared here on my blog before. But it’s so simple and delicious that I think it bears repeating every once in a while! :-) To make them, just slide several blueberries onto a wooden skewer, then cover the blueberries in your favorite yogurt. (My favorite one to use here is honey flavored Greek yogurt!) Once your kabobs are covered, place them in your freezer on a plate or baking sheet for at least a half hour. When your kabobs are frozen solid, eat ’em just like a popsicle! Yum! :-)
3. Mixed Fruit Kabobs
While we’re on the subject of fruit kabobs, why not mix things up a little? You can make delicious mixed fruit kabobs using a mix of strawberries, bananas, and grapes! Just cut the strawberries in half and slice the bananas, then thread the three fruits onto skewers or sticks in any arrangement you like. Then pop them into the freezer for a half hour or so, and enjoy!
4. Frozen Berry Bites
Here’s another frozen fruit treat that features creamy, delicious yogurt. They’re a great guilt-free treat on hot days, and they couldn’t be simpler to make! Just add one part berries and one part plain yogurt to your blender, and blend until it reaches your desired consistency. (Some people prefer things to be super smooth, but I actually prefer to keep some of the original texture of the fruit!) Then pour the berry and yogurt mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen, pop them out of the tray and enjoy!
5. Kiwi Pops
Here’s a fun popsicle-type kiwi treat that will take you all of 30 seconds to prepare! Just peel a kiwi fruit and cut it into thick slices. Insert a popsicle stick into the side of each slice, then freeze until solid. On a recent vacation to Mexico the resort offered these to guests around the pool and I thought I’d died and gone to heaven! ;-)
6. Breakfast On A Stick
While frozen fruit treats make great snacks and desserts during the summertime, they can also make an amazing breakfast! Here’s a simple frozen fruit breakfast that is sure to satisfy—I like to call it Breakfast on a Stick! Carefully insert a popsicle stick into a peeled banana, then roll the banana in a layer of your favorite flavor of yogurt. Next, cover the yogurt layer in your breakfast topping of choice (like chopped nuts, granola, toasted coconut, seeds, etc. You could even use your favorite breakfast cereal!) Freeze the whole thing, and you’ll have a quick and delicious breakfast ready to grab on your way out the door!
7. Breakfast In A Cup
This is basically just a stick-free version of the Breakfast on a Stick idea above, but I figured it would be good to present both options. It would be great to enjoy on a weekend morning rather than heating up the kitchen by making your usual pancakes!
Start by adding a layer of your favorite yogurt to the bottom of a reusable silicone muffin liner. Then add sliced fruit (and maybe some granola for a tasty crunch) and freeze. Once they’re frozen, you can peel away the silicone liner and it’ll be ready to eat!
8. Frozen Fruit In Drinks
You need something to help keep your drink cold on a hot day, but adding ice will eventually leave you with a watered down drink. Instead of ice, use frozen fruit! Frozen grapes and blueberries work really well, and they won’t water down your drink as they thaw.
9. Breakfast Popsicles
Ever wished you could combine popsicles and breakfast? We’ll you’re in luck, because I have three delicious breakfast popsicles to share with you!
