We love rice krispie treats in our house and have for decades, so a single-serving rice krispie treat is a total no-brainer! The fact that these sweet, crunchy, and slightly gooey treats are so quick and easy to make is the icing on the cake, as far as I’m concerned.
When I realized Melissa at No. 2 Pencil had posted about a single-serving rice krispie treat, I dropped everything to make it ASAP! It was everything I hoped it would be, and now I can enjoy a reasonably-sized rice krispie treat (or a chocolate chip cookie for one) any time I like!
And you can, too — just follow the simple recipe below!
Watch me make these single-serving rice krispie treats in the video at the end of the post!
Single-Serving Rice Krispie Treat (Recipe)
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp butter
- 4 large marshmallows
- 1 cup Rice Krispies cereal*
*Note: Rice Krispies are made with a barley syrup, so they’re not technically gluten free. To make them gluten free, use a crispy rice cereal that’s labeled gluten free, like Nature’s Path.
Directions:
Add the butter to a small bowl and microwave it until the butter is melted, then add the marshmallows to the melted butter and return the bowl to the microwave. Microwave for approximately 15 seconds more, but keep an eye on the marshmallows — they will puff up quite a bit!
Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the melted butter and marshmallows until they’re well combined. Add the cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
At this point, I like to pack it down a bit with my fingers and let it cool for a couple of minutes to get the full rice krispie treat effect. But if you’d rather grab a spoon and dig right in, that’s your prerogative!
I hope you enjoy this new twist on an old favorite as much as I do!

Here’s a suggestion for the chocoholics – use Post Cocoa Pebbles instead! They are GLUTEN FREE, as are the Fruity Pebbles. Yum!!

It is nice to find treats and new (and old that we may have forgotten about) recipes for those with such restricted diets. It is so sad that we have ruined the wheat and corn that used to be healthy….But, back to the basics – non gmo.

Have a blessed week everyone!
Have done rice crispy treats using peanut butter rather than butter – soooo good!

Thanks for the idea of the peanut butter – can’t wait to try that! And I like to mix the regular and chocolate rice krispies when I make mine. I even put sprinkles and candles on top for a friends birthday this year since they are her absolute favorite. For her it was better than any cake.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.Seriously? Like there’s a lot of vitamins in marshmallows?? If I want fast I don’t want to clean the sticky pan.

Crushed Rice Chex! Why didn’t I think of that!?? Thanks Gloria! :-)
I get some people don’t like nuking, but ‘reduces vitamins’ in MARSHMALLOWS!! Haa haa haa!!!!

I have one granddaughter that even as a baby would stare at, then touch my earrings and necklaces. We would laugh and say she was definitely a girly, girl and loved Nana’s bling. Now at six years old she is always wearing something sparkling, making sure I see it and checking out what “Nana’s” got on that sparkles too. She is my kind of girl!
Those nails – they just scare me!

But putting “Rice Krispies” and “Gluten Free” in the same title is a bit misleading as only the new Brown rice ones are gluten-free. Regular ones definitely have gluten in them!
Please log in or create a free account to comment.Very clearly stated in the ingredient list.
Please log in or create a free account to comment.Actually the title of the actual recipies says “SINGLE SERVE RICE KRISPIE TREATS”. In the title of the article she but gluten free in parenthesis for a reason. Because if you notice in the ingredients, in parenthesis again, she put that if you want gluten free go for the brown rice version of rice krispies.
