Now that June is here, there are plenty of great options for shoppers who are looking to snag a sweet discount. And what better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than by treating yourself to something you’ve had your eye on?

June is always a busy and fun-filled month here in Utah, since most people are looking to get some summer fun in before it gets properly hot in July. (And on a personal level, I’m also partial to the month of June because Dave and I got married on June 13th!)

1. Dishware

The wedding industry is still emphasizing early summer as the time to buy. You can take advantage of great deals on traditional wedding gifts this month, including dishes! If your everyday dishes are in rough shape, now would be a great time to replace them.

2. Lingerie

Big lingerie retailers like Macy’s and Victoria’s Secret turn over their inventory this month, and inventory turnover always means great deals on last year’s styles! Be sure to keep an eye out for the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale this month, where you can often find discounts as deep as 50% off!

3. Tools & Hardware

With Father’s Day coming up on June 18th, many retailers are offering great deals on tools and hardware for Dad! Make sure to check out the big home improvement and hardware chains to find the best deals on tools, tool kits, and all kinds of home improvement gear.

4. Outdoor Gear

In addition to tools and hardware, many retailers also offer discounts on outdoor gear for Father’s Day! You’ll low prices on camping gear, fishing rods and tackle, hunting apparel and gear, and more. Although the best deals on outdoor gear usually come when the cold weather moves in, June is the best time to get outfitted for outdoor adventures this summer.

5. Movie Tickets

Take advantage of the great deals on movie tickets at your local theater this month! Many theaters host summer movie programs for kids, which can be an affordable way to give the kids something to do this summer without breaking the bank.

Some movie theaters even screen classic movies during the summer, and often offer discounts on passes or ticket packages. (Going to the movies is one of my favorite summer activities, because a cool, dark theater feels especially luxurious when it’s hot out!)

Tomorrow (June 2nd) is National Doughnut Day, and doughnut vendors like Krispy Kreme and others typically offer FREE doughnuts to celebrate the occasion. Check out your local and nearby doughnut shops to find out if they’re offering any “sweet” deals tomorrow!

7. Sunglasses

Speaking of celebrations, National Sunglasses Day is also coming up on June 27th. This annual campaign by the Vision Council aims to raise awareness of the importance of protecting your eyes from the summer sun. Department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom have offered discounts and deals on sunglasses around the same time in the past, so keep an eye out for great deals on new sunnies.

8. Gym Memberships

By the time June rolls around, many New Year’s resolutions regarding exercise have long since been abandoned, and gyms are trying to attract new members. One way they do that is by offering deals on memberships, so check out your nearby gyms to see what you can find. (And as an added bonus, you’ll probably have your pick of the cardio and weight machines!)

9. Fishing Permits

Anglers rejoice — National Fishing and Boating Week will take place on June 7-15 this year. In conjunction with the event, many states allow residents to fish without a permit on at least one day during the month of June. TakeMeFishing.org has a helpful list of states’ free fishing day(s).
