Bring a big bowl of this easy-to-make dip to your next holiday gathering and prepare to be asked for the recipe! I’ve also included ideas for adapting this dip for other holidays and special occasions.

Jillee’s Take:

This Christmas cake dip is meant to be scooped up with cookies or fresh fruit, but you may be tempted to just grab a spoon and dig in! I wouldn’t recommend leaving this dip out on the countertop for longer than a couple of hours, but that’s never been a problem for me — it goes fast!

How To Make Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Dip

Assorted holiday baking ingredients on a counter: Cool Whip, Philadelphia cream cheese, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, vanilla bean paste, and sprinkles. Perfect for creating a festive Christmas tree cake dip that’s sure to delight your holiday guests!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes (about 5 snack cakes)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Christmas sprinkles (optional)
Three images: a bowl with cream cheese, decorative sweets, and a hint of Miss Mouth's magic; a hand elegantly mixing ingredients; and finally, a platter brimming with holiday-themed cheese spread, cookies, apple slices, and pretzels.

Directions:

Start by roughly chopping the snack cakes (or mashing them up with a potato masher, like I did!)

Place the cake chunks in a mixing bowl and add the softened cream cheese, vanilla, and milk. Stir with a wooden spoon to keep the cake chunks more intact, or use a hand mixer for a smoother texture.

Use a Danish dough whisk or spatula to carefully fold the whipped topping into the cake and cream cheese mixture. (If the finished dip is a bit thick, add a splash of milk.)

You can serve this dip right away, or cover and chill it to enjoy later. Garnish with sprinkles before digging in, and serve your festive cake dip alongside Nilla Wafers, pretzels, graham crackers, or fresh fruit for dipping.

How to Enjoy Leftovers

Tightly covered, any leftover cake dip will stay fresh in the fridge for about one week. (It also freezes surprisingly well!)

Christmas Tree Cake Dip Substitutions

  • You can make this with chocolate Christmas Tree cakes or Zebra cakes instead (though it may look a bit muddy in comparison).
  • For an extra creamy dip, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Use homemade vanilla extract for added flavor.
  • Use any kind of Christmas-themed sprinkles you like! You can find a lot of cute options wherever seasonal baking supplies are sold: snowflakes, snowmen, traditional red and green, etc.

Cake Dip Variations (For Any Occasion!)

You can easily adapt this recipe for any holiday or occasion. Look for sprinkles and snack cakes (Little Debbie or otherwise) in colors that suit the occasion, like white Little Debbie Fancy Cakes for a bridal shower or Red, White, and Blue cakes for an Independence Day barbecue.

Simply swap the snack cakes and sprinkles to make the perfect cake dip for every occasion!
