It’s probably not particularly “polite” to discuss an issue like clogged toilets, but it’s something we have all experienced before, right? And when it comes to everyday problems that people face, I’m all about providing useful solutions. Even if it means I have to be rather blunt about toilets and certain bodily functions. ;-)
So back to the toilets. Whether it was your doing, or someone else’s, sometimes your toilet gets clogged. It’s just a fact of life! So today I want to tell you about a simple DIY project that can help get things moving again. These homemade toilet bombs are a great low-effort way to dissolve clogs.
These “bombs” are made with baking soda and Epsom salt, which both help dissolve and break down clogs. The other ingredient is liquid dish detergent, which helps to get things moving again and provides extra cleaning power. Here’s how you can make these helpful tablets at home!
DIY Clog Busting Toilet Bombs
Start by stirring together the baking soda and Epsom salt in a mixing bowl.
Next, add the dish soap one tablespoon at a time, mixing well each time.
Add just enough soap so that the mixture resembles wet sand.
Place your liners into the cups of your muffin tin. (Paper liners will work fine if you’re using a standard muffin tin, but a silicone muffin pan makes it even easier to remove the finished “bombs” later on.)
Scoop the baking soda, Epsom salt, and detergent mixture into the liners, and use your fingers to pack it down tightly. Set the muffin tray in a warm, dry place for several hours, or overnight.
When the bombs are completely dry, remove the from the liners and store in an airtight container.
Using Your Toilet Bombs
The next time your toilet gets clogged, place one of the bombs in the toilet bowl.
Pour 4 cups of hot water into the bowl as well, then close the lid and let it sit for a few hours (or overnight). After letting it sit, try flushing. The water should be flowing smoothly!
