Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had occasion to use what I affectionately refer to as my “Miracle Cleaner” several times! The inside of my slow cooker needed some help, my flat iron was looking pretty grungy, and finally I noticed my cookie sheets were again showing their “age.” Each time I mix up this simple concoction, my amazement over its efficacy is renewed! It truly is a “miracle cleaner” in my eyes.
So today I decided to give it a new moment to shine on my website for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of being introduced to it yet. Prepare to be amazed. For those of you who have had the pleasure…I have rounded up ten different posts I have done that feature this cleaning lifesaver for inspiration….in case there’s something you’ve missed. :-)
What is this miracle you ask? It is quite simply…baking soda and hydrogen peroxide made into a paste.
This is how I make it:
I don’t store this mixture, I simply mix it up as needed. I start with a small bowl, add as much baking soda as I think I’ll need for the job, and then slowing pour in the hydrogen peroxide until I have made a thick paste. If you happen to get a little over zealous with the hydrogen peroxide and it becomes runny….simply add more baking soda. It’s that simple.
This how I use it:
Then I take a glob (yes, that’s the technical term for it) of the mixture and rub it on the offending stain/mess. If you have sensitive skin I would suggest wearing gloves but I don’t. I find that rubbing with my fingers is the most effective at getting the gunk off whatever I’m working on, but you could certainly use a sponge or something similar too.
Getting Rid Of Yellow Armpit Stains
This is my “Miracle Cleaner” + one of my other favorite cleaning ally’s…Dawn dish soap. It’s able to cut through the greasy residue and dissolve the organic compounds from the sweat, so that a regular laundry cycle can lift the stain right out.
Cleaning Old Cookie Sheets
I never thought my old cookies sheets could look new again….until the “miracle cleaner!” Before I tried my “miracle cleaner” on them, I had probably tried every store-bought cleaner in the cleaning aisle at least once. But those stains simply wouldn’t budge! I eventually put my cleaner to the test, and as they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words!
Cleaning Old Cookie Sheets – Update
I updated the cookie sheets post when I discovered an even easier way to use the “miracle cleaner.”
Cleaning Your Flat Iron
How do these things get so gross? Well in my case, I use a fair amount of hairspray, and when I use the flat iron on my hairsprayed hair…this is what ends up happening. A serious case of “gunk build-up”. The things we do for vanity. :-)
Thank goodness the “miracle cleaner” makes my flat iron look like new again (because it’s way too expensive to have to replace very often!)
Cleaning Nasty Stove Burners
Stove burners and stove burner pans are some of the most vexing things to clean in any kitchen. They are prone to both food spills AND high heats, which results in baked-on messes that are seemingly impossible to remove.
After using the “overnight plastic bag technique,” the “miracle cleaner” finishes off this nasty kitchen cleaning chore very nicely!
Shining Up Dingy Kitchen Silverware
Stained, dingy, and cheap silverware that I bought for a party really needed the “miracle cleaner.” Once again it saved the day! Thanks to the MC, I was able to proudly provide my dinner guests with shiny discount cutlery that cut through my Foolproof Prime Rib like butter! ;-)
Cleaning Kitchen Utensils and More
If you have hard water, like I do, you know what a number it can do on lots of things in your home. Water that is high in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and other minerals causes hard water stains that look especially unsightly on plastic cooking utensils. But those white stains are no match for the “miracle cleaner.”
To get rid of the hard water stains, scoop the paste onto the utensils, gave it a good rubdown, and rinse. The white buildup melts away, and your utensils will come out looking like new!
Cleaning Bathroom Counters and Fixtures
The “miracle cleaner” made my bathroom sparkle like it hadn’t sparkled in a very long time! It cut through the makeup and hairspray that combine to form an almost impenetrable film on the faucet, basin, and around the sink. And those pesky mineral deposits around the faucet and sink were just as easy to tackle!
Cleaning Your Slow Cooker
The inside lining of my slow cooker gets SO dirty. It drives me crazy. But it’s no match for the “miracle cleaner.” If you think your trusty old slow cooker is just destined to look like the ugly stepchild of your cookware….think again! Try this method to restore it to its well-earned glory!
My Favorite Homemade Cleaners
The “miracle cleaner” is number one on the list of my all-time favorite homemade cleaners that I find essential around my home. It cleans grime I didn’t even know was possible to remove!
