After the unseasonably cold weather we had last week here in Utah, it feels more and more as though winter is just around the corner! And that means cold and flu season is likely already under way.
And I truly hate getting sick during November and December, because work is crazy this time of year and I need to stay on top of things. So when it comes to staying healthy, I gladly take all the help I can get!
And today’s post is all about one of my secret weapons for keeping myself healthy: Defend Essential Oil Blend. There are all sorts of ways to use it to keep sickness at bay, and I’ll be sharing 8 of them with you today!
What Is Defend Blend?
Defend is a blend of cinnamon, lemon, clove bud, lime, eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, spearmint, and oregano essential oils. Many of these oils (including peppermint and eucalyptus) have been shown to have antiviral properties, making it a useful tool for staying healthy!
Because this blend contains oils that can irritate sensitive skin, it’s important to dilute it with a carrier oil before application. Avoid using Defend on children under 6, and take care when diffusing it if you have pets. (As a general rule, your pet should always have the option to leave the room when you have a diffuser running!)
Okay, now that we’ve got that little intro out of the way, let’s get to that list! Here are 8 ways to you can use Defend blend this winter to help keep yourself and your family on their feet.
8 Ways To Use Defend Blend During Cold & Flu Season
1. Diffuse It
Use Defend blend in your diffuser as a first line of defense during cold and flu season. It’s an easy way to spread those antimicrobial oils into the air and around the house!
2. Roll It On
Applying Defend topically is another good way to keep sickness at bay. The Defend Blend Ready-To-Apply Roll-On comes pre-diluted with fractionated coconut oil, making it quick and easy to apply anytime!
Keep your Defend Roll-On close at hand whenever a cold is going around at home, school, or work. Swipe it on the back of your neck or onto your wrists for added protection while you’re out and about.
3. Add To Soap
Keeping your hands clean is essential if you want to stay healthy during cold and flu season. According to the CDC, the simple act of hand washing can prevent about 20% of colds!
Add a drop of Defend blend to your handful of soap before washing for added peace of mind. You can even add a drop to a squirt of hand sanitizer to help keep your hands clean on the go!
4. Soak It In
Whether you have a cold or the flu, the aches and pains of being sick can make you feel even more miserable. But a warm soak in the tub can work wonders, and its a great opportunity to use Defend blend too!
Just add about 12 drops of Defend to 4 ounces of your favorite carrier oil, then add a small amount to the running water while you fill your bathtub. Soak for 20-30 minutes to ease aches, open your airways, and help your body heal. (You can also use the Defend and oil mixture as a massage oil!)
5. Make A Warm Compress
Suffering from sinus pressure? Using a warm compress can help alleviate sinus pressure and pain without the need for additional medication.
Add a couple of drops of Defend blend to a cotton ball, place it on your warm compress, and wrap them together with a thin towel. Apply the compress to your sinus area to help alleviate pain and open your airways.
6. Sleep On It
Don’t want to run a diffuser all night, every night during cold and flu season? Using a cotton ball is a great low-tech alternative.
Add a couple of drops of Defend to a cotton ball, then stow it away in your pillowcase. The oils will permeate the pillowcase while you sleep for a diffuser-free aromatherapy experience!
7. Steam Treatment
Another useful way to tackle painful sinus pressure and stubborn congestion is with a simple steam treatment! Add a few drops of Defend to a bowl of hot, steamy water, then lean over the bowl and take several slow, deep breaths. You’ll be breathing easier in no time!
8. Make An “Inhaler”
You can experience the benefits of Defend just by breathing it in through your nose! Making your own simple aromatherapy inhaler with Defend is a great way to keep it close at hand without carrying around the whole bottle.
