This Is The Best Addition I’ve Made To My Kitchen In Years

Pantry Organizers

Over the past few months Iโ€™ve started sharing “a few of my favorite things” here on my blog. (Iโ€™m turning into a regular Maria!) ;-) Iโ€™ve written about my favorite set of bamboo bed sheets, and my favorite bra, which also happened to be many of YOUR favorite bra too!

Today I’ll be sharing another favorite product of mine, but this one canโ€™t be worn or even slept on. It’s actually a set of food storage containers, and it’s definitely one of theย best kitchen-related purchases Iโ€™ve made in a long time! Now you may not be able to find the exact set I have, but Sistema makes several different sets, plus you can purchase individual containers if that makes more sense for your space!

My New Favorite Way To Store Dry Foods

But before I launch into why I love this set of storage containers so much (and trust me, I’ll get into all the details shortly), lets talk about what comes in the set. The particular set I bought includes 9 containers of various sizes, and 18 pieces total:

  • four 6.76-ounce/200-milliliter containers
  • two 33.8-ounce/1.0-liter containers
  • two 13.5-ounce/400-milliliter containers
  • one 67.6-ounce/2.0-liter container, all with lids

You can view the set in its entirety on Amazon. But in the meantime, let’s get to the part where I gush about why these containers are my new favorites!

Pantry Organizers

Reason #1 – They’re Easy To Use

One of my favorite features of these containers are their squared-off design. The sides of the containers are straight all the way up, leaving a nice, wide opening at the top. Containers that taper in at the top are a pet peeve of mine, because it makes it a lot harder to scoop the contents out.

Pantry Organizers

Reason #2 – They Stack Nicely

The lids for the containers are very smart too. They have clips around the edges that lock into place on the containers, creating a firm, airtight seal. The lids are also nice and flat, with a slight ridge around the edges. Theyโ€™re designed that way so you can stack the containers up vertically, and the ridge around each lid keeps them snugly in place. Stacking these containers up can save you a lot of valuable space in your pantry or cupboard!

Pantry Organizers

Reason #3 – More Sizes, More Versatility

I also like the variety of sizes that come in this particular set. There are a few deeper containers that are perfect for storing dry bulk ingredients, like flour, sugar, oats, etc. (You can also keep the measuring cups right in the container with the ingredients, so you donโ€™t have to go searching for a measuring cup every time.)

The smaller, shallower containers are handy for storing ingredients that come in smaller quantities, like baking soda and baking powder.

Pantry Organizers

Reason #4 – They’re Practical

Beyond the clever design features, there are a lot of practical features to these containers that appeal to me. Theyโ€™re BPA-free and dishwasher-safe (as long as you wash them in the top rack of your dishwasher.) You can microwave the containers too if you want, just make sure to remove the lids first as they are not microwave-safe. These containers and lids are also fridge- and freezer-safe, which makes them even more versatile.

Pantry Organizers

Iโ€™ve been enjoying these containers thoroughly since I bought them, and I know that theyโ€™re durable enough for me to use for years to come. And when I want to store something else in them, I can just pull out my label maker, print a new label, and voila! :-)

Do you have any favorite food storage containers or pantry organizers that you canโ€™t live without? Iโ€™d love to hear about it! Leave a comment below and we can keep the conversation going.

  1. I really like this one better! I am waiting for payday to get it. I am reorganizing my kitchen, because it is so cluttered, I cannot use my counters and I have an island! Ugh!

  2. I stopped reading about Sistema when I saw “100% virgin plastic.” My rating is low because of the product, not the author! I enjoy your blog tremendously!

As I journey toward a ZERO WASTE home, I continue to use what I have (and I do love my OXO pop containers!) When the time comes to replace broken containers, I will use non-plastic alternatives: canning jars, reusing product jars, or buying stainless steel. I anxiously await the day I have accumulated enough Oui yogurt jars to repurpose them into spice jars!

  3. I am partial to glass so I can see in, although a grease/paint pencil makes that easy. Label maker is amazing too.
I use mason and ball type jars because I can bleach and scald the glass, and the newer, white plastic easy lids make this a dream.
If you have a lot of jars, they look awesome in the cupboard.
The clip down style mean I never lose the lid! The others are regular or wide mouth.
I really enjoy my anchor and Pyrex sets as well. I just wish the lids took more abuse and were les expensive.
These are microwave/oven to table and refrigerate leftovers. Heating them up is a non issue.

  4. What a great idea, I love these. I always thought glass was best to use to store dry foods, because the foods last longer. Thanks for THS new information for me.

  5. The Sistema containers are awesome! I picked up the set you mention last year on Zulily and have since bought two more sets and some other pieces. My pantry looks so neat and organized!

  6. I am unable to find bentonite clay. I have tried Rite Aid, GNC and Walgreens
    Thanks Dorinda

  7. We try to eat almonds and peanuts which I buy in square plastic containers with screw on lids. I’m sure they won’t last forever and are not good for those with arthritis. But for now, they work for us and are free plus the recycling bit. Thanks for all your good information!

  8. I love my new glass lock containers, heavy glass squares and bowls, with locking plastic lids. Much cheaper than these plastic, and barring bad accidents, they will last forever. I also have the glass refrigerater set, square and rectangle glass containers with glass lids, proof that these typs of containers can last for a very long time, the ones from my grandmother have to be over 60 years old, and still work great.

    • Hi! Where did you get your glass containers and/or what kind are they?

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
      • They are called glass lock. I got mine from groupon and then found some at good will! they are also available from Amazon, and sams club/walmart.

  9. I have had these for at least five years now. I still love them, they are so easy to open and close, and they do stack nicely. Mine are still like new in spite of their constant use.

  10. I have a set of Crusinart Fresh Edge. They are clear and my tops are red…also come in eco friendly green. The tops have a pop top that you pump to get out air, then push down to lock. Then there is a push button you push in to get last bit of air out. I also clip directions and tape to container. This is the only container Iโ€™ve found that keep graham crackers fresh and crispy. Tip…write expiration date on the container.

  11. I’ve been using Sistema Klip-It Storage for years and LOVE them. I worked in the DC/VA area for 10 years before retiring and lived down the street from the Market Commons Shopping Center where The Container Store in Arlington, VA, is located and also where my son worked a 2nd job. I also worked around the corner, so needless to say, I frequented The Container Store and many other shops in this shopping center. I’ve divided my small pantry in half and the left half is canned goods/staples while the right half is completely Sistema Klip-It Storage. After retiring and moving back home to Tennessee, I had to resort to shopping at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for my Sistema since we don’t have The Container Store in Memphis.

I don’t mind the pop-up adds, but seriously hate the fact that while I was trying to type in the comments box, the screen kept scrolling up and down requiring me to adjust my screen constantly. This is the 1st time I’ve run into this issue and also assuming it is caused by continual addition/refresh update of the pop-up adds.

    • Hi Deborah! Sorry about the scrolling issue, we are trying to fix it! It actually is happening because your screen is either zoomed in or zoomed out. If you go to your “view” menu and set it back to “actual size,” the scrolling will stop! So sorry and thanks for your comment :-)

  12. I love my oxo containers. You just have to press down on the centre button to pop open. Great for arthritic fingers.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  13. I live in the boonies and get tons of those little black weevil bugs that eat thru cardboard and plastic and mice. Wondering how these containers will stand up. Other air tight containers have failed me numerous times.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • I use Ball Jars since they now have regular screw on tops you can get for them. Being short, I place the jars in hard plastic trays (like those used for organizing your fridge) so I can slide them out with one hand and support the bottom. This combination has worked out great for me!

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • I use the Stackables from Tupperware. I’ve had mine for over 20 years and the lid color hasn’t faded a bit! Also, when care packages are sent overseas to the troops, Tupperware is the only certified container that is approved by the US military to be used to send homemade goodies. No bugs get into these fabulous containers! My favorites are the square and rectangle shapes as the lids seem to be easiest to put on (just my opinion)

  14. I live in the country and have gone to the flip-tite containers. The single flip handle on top I can work with the arthritis in my hands, better yet I have yet to have a mouse get into them. So no more critters, even though every fall they try to come in.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • I past mine on the front with packing tape.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  15. The only reason I don’t like this type of container is you lose the cooking directions…like on oatmeal or rice. I usually cut out the directions and slide it down the side of the container.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • I neatly (usually) cut the directions out and tape them to the side. Including the recipe, such as chocolate chip cookies.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • like Annette, I cut out the directions then slide into a zip-lock baggie then tape to the side of container. Easy to change out directions when changing the contents……………….

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
      • Thanks a great idea Stacey!!

  16. I, personally love the 4-cup screw top Ziploc containers….I use them for all my baking ingredients such as raisins, sunflower seeds, oats, chocolate chips, icing sugar etc….I always keep my flour & sugar in my stainless canisters because I use a larger amount of those items…

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  17. Love the idea, i also use Tupperware. They have straight sides, groves cover for stacking and come in a variety of sizes. Plus are gaurenteed for life.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • The Tupperware “lifetime guarantee” only lasts until they discontinue the item. I needed a replacement lid for a canister and was told that style was no longer made so they couldn’t help me.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  18. I have square Tupperware containers. LOVE them! I don’t know how long ago I purchased them, in but they are the best!

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  19. Lock & Lock (QVC). Clear containers with colorful snap lids, love the red. Various sizes and shapes, round, square, rectangle, all stack nicely when closed. Some have handles. Iโ€™ll check out your recommendation Jillee

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  20. I just bought the containers you described. I was looking for some new clear ones so I am glad I always read your post to see what tips you have for the day. Thank you again.

  21. Hi, I totally agree Jilley, out of all the storage containers I have used (including other clip top varieties, Tupperware etc) and my career in ‘Catering and Hospitality Management’ these are by far the best I have used. Only last night I went for a large drum shaped container of rice from my shelves and having arthritis it slid through my hands, the lid popped off and spilled about 500g of rice across the floor… This would not have happend if the rice had been in this new container.
Additionally, there is a larger container that holds a standard UK bag of flour 3lb and this size comes with a handy measuring cup.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
  22. I use Tupperware containers (had for many years now) as they stack and come in various sizes Best thing is they are replaceable if they are damaged during my lifetime

Please log in or create a free account to comment.
    • I had a pantry full of Tupperware when the kids were young. They came in all sizes and stacked beautifully in my space. The sides were clear so that you could see the contents. Tupperware replaced some of my lids when necessary. As the two kids left home, some of the containers left with them, some were sold at yard sales. I use canning jars and a few glass canisters on my counter now.

The refrigerator containers referred to above were probably Pyrex. You can find them at flea markets and antique stores or on eBay. They’re wonderful, but pricey these days and do not have an air-tight seal. They are beautiful for display and serving. I have a set of the old mixing bowls.
