Slumber Essential Oil Blend Sleep Sticks For A Good Night’s Sleep
I’m always looking for ways to get a better night’s sleep, and Slumber Blend has been certainly been a big help in that regard. I have, in the past, used it to make my own sleep salve, but I was looking for a format that would be less disruptive to my early-to-bed, early-to-rise husband.
I’ve always been more of a night owl, so when I would climb in bed at night (or the wee hours of the morning), I would have to find the jar of salve, take the lid off, put it on, then replace the lid and put the jar back, which was a bit noisy and required turning the light on so I could see what I was doing. He didn’t complain about it, but I woke him up more than once (despite my best efforts).
As I considered how I might solve this dilemma, I remembered the post I wrote years ago about making “winter cheeks sticks“, and realized I had my solution right there! All I had to do was use Slumber blend in place of lavender oil, and I’d be able to make my own homemade sleep sticks that would be quick and easy to apply!
Here’s how to make them.
DIY Slumber Sticks: How To Make Your Own Sleep Sticks
You’ll need:
- 1/4 cup virgin coconut oil
- 1/4 cup fractionated coconut oil (or other carrier oil)
- 2 Tbsp beeswax pastilles
- 35 drops Slumber Essential Oil Blend
- Empty lip balm tubes
- Double boiler (or a pot and a metal/glass bowl)
- Measuring cup
Directions:
In the top of a double boiler, or in a glass or metal bowl suspended over a pot of simmering water, combine the coconut oil, liquid carrier oil, and beeswax. Stir occasionally until melted and combined, then remove from heat.
Add 35 drops of Slumber to the melted oil mixture and stir.
Pour the oil mixture into a measuring cup with a pour spot, then use it to carefully fill your empty lip balm tubes. Allow the oil mixture to solidify completely before using.
This recipe will fill about 20-25 small lip balm tubes. If you have any empty tubes left over afterward, you can use them to make homemade lip balm or stain treatment sticks! (Or, for a larger Slumber stick that covers more surface area, you could use an empty deodorant container rather than a lip balm tube.)
Once you have made your sticks, using them is easy — simply swipe a stick over the bottoms of your feet once you’ve climbed into bed, or while enjoying a cup of sleepy time tea. You’ll be off to sleep in no time!

I have made several homemade skin blends for myself and friends/family. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I love tea tree oil, and have added it into a toner for my daughter. I also use it in homemade cleaners to help disinfect.

My most common uses of EO’s is usually medicinal. Lavender for burns, Tea Tree for cold sores. Of course, mixing lavender and tea tree in water for cleaning is great.

Home cleaning products and laundry, homemade beauty products, and home remedies- especially for my little ones. Please log in or create a free account to comment.I have sebhorreic dermatitis; in lay terms, that means that my body has an immune response to the natural oils my skin produces. This produces flaky patches, sometimes itching, and sometimes a breakout. I have a medication given to me by the dermatologist; it is a ketaconozole lotion, and it helps sometimes, but doesn’t really produce measurable and long lasting results, plus the medicine can be expensive.
I decided to take matters into my own hands. I already used tea tree oil on a cotton swab to dab on when I had a breakout before I found out what caused it, with limited success. I decided to try something similar to see if I could help my skin condition.
I got a 1/2 ounce bottle with a little dropper nozzle on it, made of nalgene, from container store; I wouldn’t use other plastics for this because it is a very strong mixture, and I plan to get a glass bottle for my next batch. My ingredients are as follows:
1/4 ounce tea tree oil
1/4 ounce lavender essential oil
6 drops peppermint essential oil
Add the ingredients to the bottle, mix gently. use a few drops to dampen a cotton swab; apply to any breakouts, or gently swipe any flaky areas of your face. It may take a few days for a breakout to clear, depending on when you started treating it. Don’t touch it except when you are washing your face, or applying the EO mixture. With flaky skin, when you begin to swipe you will begin to see the flakes easily slough off as you gently swipe them with the cotton swab.
To further explain my skin issue, my skin would flake so much that even an exfoliant didn’t help but briefly, by the next day some areas would be flaky all over again. My nose has been relentlessly flaky daily since I was a preteen, and my brows as well. Since I started using this mixture, I go for a week at least before I get flaky again, and most breakouts never get past the angry red spot stage, and disappear in 2 or 3 days, sometimes overnight.
This mixture is STRONG. Use it once a day, period. Use it preferably at night after you wash your face for bed, so it has time to work uninterrupted for a few hours. Also it feels like something you would not want to expose to sunlight , to prevent any accidental sunburn. Currently I only use it when I see any symptoms, such as a red spot forming, or flakes beginning to peel a little. Then I use it daily until symptoms disappear. This is the most clear my skin has been since I was a kid, and I wouldn’t trade this mix for anything! Just use common sense and caution, especially near eyes.
An added benefit-the scent of lavender is soothing and will give you more restful sleep.

Alone it is not my fave, but blended with the fir – WOW! Love it! I am currently using in it cold process soap and it is my wake up in woods shower soap in the morning.
