The Simple DIY For Better Sleep Is A Nightstand Necessity

Slumber Essential Oil Blend Sleep Sticks For A Good Night’s Sleep

I’m always looking for ways to get a better night’s sleep, and Slumber Blend has been certainly been a big help in that regard. I have, in the past, used it to make my own sleep salve, but I was looking for a format that would be less disruptive to my early-to-bed, early-to-rise husband.

I’ve always been more of a night owl, so when I would climb in bed at night (or the wee hours of the morning), I would have to find the jar of salve, take the lid off, put it on, then replace the lid and put the jar back, which was a bit noisy and required turning the light on so I could see what I was doing. He didn’t complain about it, but I woke him up more than once (despite my best efforts).

My grandpuppy, Duncan, definitely approves of my sleep sticks!

As I considered how I might solve this dilemma, I remembered the post I wrote years ago about making “winter cheeks sticks“, and realized I had my solution right there! All I had to do was use Slumber blend in place of lavender oil, and I’d be able to make my own homemade sleep sticks that would be quick and easy to apply!

Here’s how to make them.

DIY Slumber Sticks: How To Make Your Own Sleep Sticks

DIY Sleep Sticks - fractionated coconut oil, Slumber Essential Oil Blend, beeswax pastilles, coconut oil, and empty lip balm tubes

You’ll need:

DIY Sleep Sticks - woman's hand measuring beeswax pastilles into a jar with the other ingredients; woman stirring the ingredients in the jar which is in a pot of simmering water

Directions:

In the top of a double boiler, or in a glass or metal bowl suspended over a pot of simmering water, combine the coconut oil, liquid carrier oil, and beeswax. Stir occasionally until melted and combined, then remove from heat.

Add 35 drops of Slumber to the melted oil mixture and stir.

Pour the oil mixture into a measuring cup with a pour spot, then use it to carefully fill your empty lip balm tubes. Allow the oil mixture to solidify completely before using.

This recipe will fill about 20-25 small lip balm tubes. If you have any empty tubes left over afterward, you can use them to make homemade lip balm or stain treatment sticks! (Or, for a larger Slumber stick that covers more surface area, you could use an empty deodorant container rather than a lip balm tube.)

Once you have made your sticks, using them is easy — simply swipe a stick over the bottoms of your feet once you’ve climbed into bed, or while enjoying a cup of sleepy time tea. You’ll be off to sleep in no time!

Love the idea of sleep sticks but don’t want to DIY? Just grab my Slumber Blend Ready-to-Apply Roll-On! The convenient roll-on bottle makes it quick and easy to apply Slumber blend topically. No mixing required and no mess!

  1. I have not tried essential oils in a long time and am anxious to try them again. I will say eucalyptus is my favorite since I have a lot of trouble with year round allergies and it really helps me breath better.

  3. I like to use EO to awaken the senses or soothe them, and when I make my own cleaning products. My all time favorite scent is neroli, but I also like lavender, peppermint and lemon. I use a lot of tea tree for my cleaning products and others depending on what my nose tells me is okay today :)

  5. As a child I was very fortunate to live where we kept the windows open most of the year and the scents of the eucalyptus trees, the garden flowers like gardenia, carnations, roses floated in. The back porch always seemed to have herbs drying there; mints, rosemary, oregano, lavenders, many others plus some vegetables too.

It would be so nice to recreate these lovely scents in my winter home.

  7. I love essential oils! I use them for almost everything. If I had to choose a favorite it would probably be dropping peppermint in the bottom of my shower. It makes me up first thing in the morning and smells great!

  8. The only oils I have are Deep Tissue Healing Oil and Lavender. I mix the deep tissue healing oil with olive oil to rub on my babies chests when they are congested. It is also good for sprains and sore muscles. I also rubbed it behind my ear one time when it was stopped up and in less then a minute it had opened up. I would love to try out more oils!! My 9 month old is teething and not sleeping very well. I would love to try out the Dream Stick to see if it would help him!!

  10. I have used essential oils throughout the house to give us a welcoming aroma when we go from room to room. I put a few drops on a pad that came with lavender oil…it fits over a light bulb and wafts around as the bulb warms up. I would love, LOVE to get something like this to experiment with…thank you!

  11. Normally, I’d say I love LLP the most, but last week I took a bad tumble and skinned my knee (something I haven’t done since I was a kid!) pretty badly. I’ve been using Frankincense and Lavender on the wound and it’s been amazing to see how it’s helped the wound heal.

  12. I like to use a blend of peppermint & eucalyptus oil in the humidifiers/vaporizers when anyone in our house is sick. I also have a Himalayan salt lamp with a built in diffuser in the top. I love using lavender oil with it. It is calming and makes my bedroom smell great!

  14. I personally haven’t used oils before. They are just too expensive for me to buy at this point. I would love to get something to help me go to sleep naturally because I am currently taking two different prescriptions to make me go to sleep as I suffer from insomnia plus I am taking Advil PM for my back and fibro pain. Plus I would like something to help out with the menopause. Excellent giveaways thus far. Looking forward to see what is coming up next :) Thanks!

  18. I’d like to try Jeddy’s Blend–or rather want to try it on DH; to see if it can help him focus better.
For myself I’d like to to 1,000 Fleurs Scent–even though I have never been drawn to flowery scents. You see I bought Rose Petal to experiment with DIY delicate hand washable detergent & fell in love. Now I can’t stop trying floral scents. Oh, please pick me.

  19. I have only recently started following your blog and learning about essential oils. Thank you so much for all the valuable info! I would love to have a starter kit of EOs as I have begun using your natural cleaning formulas. Also my husband has trouble sleeping some nights so the Dream Sticks would be a great gift for him! If I don’t win, I plan to visit my local health food store and start using EOs soon. You’ve got me hooked! Thanks, Jillee and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  24. Love using essential oils. I get canker sores and my newest discovery is if you gargle with water and a drop or two of oregano oil two or three times a day, the canker sore heals in a day or two! Unbelievable, and those of you who get them will understand what a relief it is for it to heal that quickly!
