Pull down those cobwebs and prepare to artfully arrange your decorative gourds, because November is officially here! And that means it’s time for another installment of my monthly guide to stocking up. :-)
You may notice there’s fewer items in this list than usual, but what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. Because there’s plenty of stuff you can stock up on this month that will set you up for success through the end of the year!
So without further ado, let’s dive right in by discussing which items are worth stocking up on in the coming weeks!
4 Things To Stock Up On In November
1. Thanksgiving Foods
While Thanksgiving won’t happen until a bit later in the month this year, don’t wait to start stocking up on the things you know you’ll need! Here are a few foods you should be able to find good, “stock up” prices on.
➤ Turkeys
November is the ultimate time to stock up on turkey! While you’re getting your Thanksgiving bird, why not grab a couple of extras and freeze them to use during other holiday gatherings? (Or anytime, really—you never know when a turkey craving will strike!)
➤ Broths
Canned broths are likely to be on sale during most of November, making it a great opportunity to stock up for all your holiday cooking projects! Whether your favorite holiday recipes call for chicken broth, vegetable broth, or beef broth, stock up now so you’ll be ready when the time comes.
➤ Fried Onions
It’s a well known fact that fried onions make everything better. If you see them on sale, don’t hesitate to snatch up a few containers to see you through the holiday season!
2. Baking Supplies
But savory holiday staples aren’t the only foods you’ll want to stock up on this month! There are plenty of opportunities to stock up on supplies for your favorite holiday baking recipes too.
➤ Spices
Low prices on baking spices provide an excellent opportunity to clear out and restock your collection of baking spices. Fresh spices will make a big difference in the flavor of your favorite cookies, scones, and pies throughout the holidays!
➤ Butter
The holidays are one of the only times during the year that butter goes on sale (especially unsalted butter!) Keep scouring your local store ads for butter prices, then act fast when you see a good deal! Toss it in your freezer where it will stay good for months.
➤ Canned Pumpkin
Canned pumpkin is a seasonal treat, so stock up if you see a good sale! (Need some inspiration for how to use it all? Check out my list of canned pumpkin recipes at the end of this post]!)
➤ Cool Whip
When a recipe calls for Cool Whip, I accept no substitutes. It’s a key component of such classics as Snickers Salad, Poke Cake, and Raspberry Pretzel Jello Salad, so I like to stock up when I can!
3. Halloween Candy
During the next few days, be sure to take advantage of the extremely low post-Halloween clearance prices on candy! And you don’t have to eat it all at once—toss it in the freezer to keep it fresh!
You can either pull out the candy and let it thaw before consuming, or just eat it frozen! (Frozen homemade peanut butter cups are a personal favorite of mine.)
4. Small Appliances
People don’t normally think about Black Friday as an opportunity to stock up, but it definitely can be one! This is especially true when in comes to small appliances.
The Black Friday deals on small appliances are often too good to pass up, and they make great gifts for Christmas, birthdays, weddings, and housewarmings. Grab a few of whatever kitchen gadget catches your eye to give as gifts well into the new year.
(Curious what not to stock up on come Black Friday? Toys tend to get cheaper closer to Christmas, and if you’re looking for deals on bedding and other linens, wait until January’s “white sales.”)
