5 Easy Medicine Cabinet Swaps For Relief From Everyday Ailments

Using Essential Oils For Healing - putting Restore on an aching hand; sleeping near a diffuser; putting Complete Relief on temples; putting essential oils in a diffuser

Essential Oils For Everyday Ailments

When it comes to everyday ailments like headaches, joint pain, indigestion, and insomnia, I find that a multifaceted approach is often the most effective way to find relief. I just want to find an effective solution, and if it works quickly and without any unpleasant side effects, even better!

If an over-the-counter medicine is the best tool for the job, I have no problem with that. But where do you turn when traditional OTC drugs don’t seem to work for you, or when the side effects negate the benefits? Personally, that’s usually when I turn to essential oils!

Skeptical? I don’t blame you one bit! I once scoffed at the idea of oils taking the place of the pills in my medicine cabinet and assumed that natural alternatives like essential oils would be inherently less effective. Luckily, I’ve since woken up and learned that simply isn’t the case!

In fact, some people find that essential oils work better than certain OTC medicines they’ve never had much luck with. In order to help make it easy for you to find the right products, I’m sharing a list of medicine cabinet staples that can easily be swapped for natural remedies

Using Essential Oils For Healing - use Restore instead of pain pills

1. Relieve Pain With Restore

Due to a combination of a condition called Dupuytren’s contracture and run-of-the-mill arthritis, I deal with achy hands on an almost daily basis. And while over-the-counter pain relievers do help, I would easily exceed the dosage recommendations if I took them every time my hands were bothering me! Luckily I don’t have to worry about using too much of my Restore Essential Oil Blend

When my hands start to bother me, I grab my Restore roll-on. The cooling effect is extremely soothing and the pain fades within minutes. Living with chronic pain to any degree isn’t easy, but Restore helps make it more bearable.

And considering that Restore was actually the #1 most popular product in my store last year, I’m hardly the only one who loves it! Just read what R. Roper had to say:

“I haven’t kept track of how many pills, roll-ons, creams, gels, and oils I have tried to relieve the muscle, joint, and headache pain I’ve endured over several years. I have recurring migraines, arthritis, and fibromyalgia. This essential oil blend has immeasurably relieved pain for me. If you hurt, don’t hesitate to give this treasure a try.”

Restore features wintergreen, camphor, peppermint, ylang ylang, and other oils with therapeutic properties that help to combat soreness and pain. It comes in a convenient pre-diluted roll-on bottle, as well as a standard, undiluted bottle that’s great for adding to a DIY pain cream or your favorite lotion.

Using Essential Oils For Healing - use Complete Relief instead of Excedrin Migraine

2. Kick Headaches To The Curb With Complete Relief

Did you know that a regular dose of Excedrin Migraine contains 130 mg of caffeine? That’s roughly equal to a single cup of coffee or two cans of Diet Coke, which definitely makes it a no-go for me late at night.

I had a headache come on right before bed recently, and I was so glad I had my Complete Relief Ready-to-Apply Roll-On on hand. It helped immensely, and I wasn’t up half the night after using it.

Plus, Complete Relief can actually work even better than traditional headache remedies. That’s what happened to Joyce P.:

“It works!!! I was skeptical at first, but I had tried Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and Excedrin Tension, and sometimes they would work and sometimes not. I seem to have an issue with tension in my jaw, and nothing works, but Complete Relief works within minutes when I apply it. Thank you so much for creating it.”

And Complete Relief isn’t just for headaches! I’ve heard from readers who have used it to relieve pain and tension in other areas of their body, and from others who’ve used it to relieve the itch of mosquito bites. (Talk about versatility!)

Complete Relief is a blend of pain-relieving oils (including black pepper, spike lavender, and copaiba oils) plus soothing marjoram and basil oils, making it perfectly suited to help ease tension in the head and neck. It’s available in a convenient roll-on format so that it’s easy to swipe over your temples, the back of your neck, or anywhere else you need relief.

Using Essential Oils For Healing - use All Clear instead of nasal sprays

3. Breathe Easily With All Clear

Ever since I created my collection of essential oils, my daughter Britta has been requesting that I introduce a blend that could help with seasonal allergy symptoms. As someone who doesn’t suffer from allergies, I was ill-suited to determine what was helpful for allergy symptoms, so Britta volunteered to help me pinpoint the perfect blend of oils that now make up All Clear Essential Oil Blend.

Here’s what she had to say:

“Since I have allergy symptoms nearly year-round, I take a daily allergy pill, but it’s not nearly enough to keep my symptoms under control when they get worsen during the spring and fall. During those times, I rely on All Clear to pick up the slack and keep symptoms like congestion, nose and eye irritation, and other unpleasantness under control.”

I’m thrilled that Britta has benefitted from supplementing her OTC allergy medicine with All Clear. (I must have taught her well!) ;-)

All Clear features several oils with anti-inflammatory properties, including tea tree, rosemary, and lemon. Not only do they assist in soothing inflamed nasal passages, but they also help reduce the inflammation that contributes to puffy and itchy eyes.

The best way to use All Clear is in a diffuser, but if you don’t have a diffuser, you can always put a couple of drops of All Clear on the palms of your hands, rub them together, then bring them to your face and inhale deeply. Or inhale straight from the bottle!

Using Essential Oils For Healing - use Tum Ease instead of Tums

4. Ease Indigestion And Nausea With Tum Ease

Antacids like Tums or Pepto Bismol don’t typically have any serious side effects, but they just don’t work for everyone! In fact, our production manager, Brittany, recently mentioned to me how much her husband, Berto, loves the Tum Ease Essential Oil Blend in our shop.

Berto has been going through some really difficult health problems the last few months and Tum Ease is one of the only things that has brought him some relief. Here is what he had to say:

“For the past few months, I’ve been struggling with severe gastrointestinal issues and have been waiting for an appointment with a specialist. In the meantime I’ve been having heartburn, acid reflux, and even heart palpitations, and Tum Ease has been an absolute life-saver!

Tums and Pepto Bismol have helped, but I have to be wary of using those medicines too often. The Tum Ease roll-on is easy to use, I can bring it with me anywhere, and (most importantly) IT WORKS. As soon as I rub the oil over my stomach, I start to feel a warm wave of relief, and the soothing scent helps me calm down and breathe deeply.”

The powerhouse essential oils in Tum Ease have properties that can reduce inflammation, support digestion and metabolism, relieve nausea and pain, and more. That means you don’t have to know the exact cause of an upset stomach for Tum Ease to help ease your symptoms.

For physical processes like digestion, topical application is most effective, and that’s why Tum Ease comes in a convenient roll-on format for easy application. Just roll Tum Ease onto your lower abdomen, the soles of your feet, or on your wrists.

Using Essential Oils For Healing - use Slumber instead of Unisom

5. Sleep Soundly With Slumber

A friend mentioned to me the other day that she was having a terrible time falling asleep and staying asleep, but that she was hesitant to take sleep aids because of potential side effects. I’m sure she’s not alone! Everyone deserves a good night’s sleep without worrying about side effects like daytime drowsiness or forming a habit.

And the good news is that for a lot of people, essential oils can be more effective than a traditional sleep aid! That’s what happened for Monica G.:

Slumber was my last hope. I have tried everything from melatonin to Advil PM to sleep patches. Nothing helped until I got this Slumber Essential Oil. I have been sleeping ever since and that is a whole week which has never happened before. Try it and sleep like a baby.”

And the evidence isn’t just anecdotal — studies have shown that some essential oils, including lavender and marjoram, can contribute to better sleep quality. Both those oils play starring roles in Slumber Essential Oil Blend, along with other restful oils like cedarwood, lime, bergamot, and vetiver.

Slumber comes in both a 10ml bottle, which is great for diffusing, and a ready-to-apply roll-on, which makes it quick and easy to swipe on before bed.
