I’ve always thought of February as a bit under appreciated. (Though I admit I might be biased, seeing as how my birthday is in February.) ;-) Because even though it’s still frigid outside and spring is still on the distant horizon, there’s still plenty to celebrate! In addition to Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day, there are all kinds of sales going on that make it great time for shopping!
To prove my point, today I thought I’d share some of the things that you can stock up on in February! Sales and discounts provide an excellent opportunity to stock up on certain things you would normally only buy a few at a time. So check out your local stores for these items this month, and see if you can’t save yourself a bundle! :-)
6 Things To Stock Up On In February
1. Valentine’s Day Clearance
This week is the perfect time to stock up on clearance items from Valentine’s Day! You’ll find deep discounts on store’s leftover stocks of candy, flowers, stuffed animals, chocolates and more. You can often score discounts of up to 90% off these items at drugstores like Walgreens!
2. Canned Foods
Did you know that February is National Canned Food Month? It’s the reason why many grocery stores are offering great deals on canned goods this month! You can take advantage of those sale prices by stocking up on your favorite canned veggies, beans, tomatoes, soups, and more. (Be sure to check your local grocery store’s ads to find out which specific items are on sale!)
3. Seasonal Produce
While it’s easy to assume that February doesn’t have much to offer by way of seasonal produce, that’s not necessarily true! Your local grocery store produce section has plenty of seasonal produce in stock this month from all over the world. If you see a good sale, stock up and use a vacuum sealer to save it for later! (Read more on vacuum sealing produce.)
Here’s what’s typically in season this month:
- Artichokes
- Asparagus
- Raspberries
- Potatoes
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Celery
- Kale
- Kiwi
- Spinach
- Oranges
- Lemons
4. Asian Cooking Ingredients
Lunar New Year happened back on February 5th, but many grocery stores are offering low prices on Asian ingredients all month long to celebrate! Look for deals on soy sauce, rice vinegar, noodles, rice, and more. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on delicious Asian ingredients for less!
5. Breakfast Foods
In addition to being National Canned Food Month, February is also National Hot Breakfast Month! Check out your local stores for deals on waffle mix, pancake mix, hot cereals, and more.
6. Frozen Yogurt
February 6th was National Frozen Yogurt Day, so it’s a great time to stock up on your favorite fro-yo! Stock up on your favorite flavors, or try your hand at making some at home.
… And More!

Happy Birthday Jillee! I’m a February birthday too as well as 9 other family members. We have one big birthday party in February and each person gets a cake (or other dessert) of their own. It’s quite the display and we usually try to have a little piece of each. Since I’m always watching my weight I make some kind of low sugar (semi) healthy thing. This year it’s black bean brownie bites.
